Chapter Twenty One

“Let us all pray before we eat. Ms. Cindy please lead the prayer.” Sister Maria gave the mic to me.

I accepted it and went to the middle of the makeshift stage.

“Okay. Let’s bow down our heads. In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy spirit. Lord, thank you for the meal that we are about to eat. Please help us always to remember the needs of others who don't have as much as us. Lord forgive us for all our sins. We pray and give thanks through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen." I opened my eyes.

I was overwhelmed with this emotion that I can't put into words. The smiles of the children were contagious.

"Okay kids, attack!" I said laughing.

I looked around to see Jacob helping Isaac to open his juice pack.

With a smile, he gave the juice pack to the boy and gave him a high five.

"The kids like him." Sister Maria said.
