A seed of suspicion

Under the moonlight sky, Gary and I patrolled the edges of our area, looking for any signs of someone trying to intrude. The air was filled with excitement as we moved purposefully around the edge. The night held its secrets.

My sharp eyes picked up on small changes in the leaves that could mean someone was breaking in. I was confused because there was no smell in the air—not even the faintest hint of an animal. It seemed like the invaders were gone for good.

Turning to Gary, I voiced my concern. "Gary, something's off. Signs of intrusion, but no scent. No trace. Like they were never here."

Gary nodded thoughtfully. "I agree, Dion. It's unusual. We need to double the border patrol and keep an eye out for any further disturbances."

But my mind was focused on problems in my personal life.
