Chapter six

Helen's POV

As we stood in the registry, surrounded by the buzz of newlyweds, my mind raced with memories I thought long buried. I never imagined myself back in this situation after swearing off marriage five years ago. But here I stood, about to commit to it once more.

Finally, it was our turn, and we were ushered into the room. The reality of the moment hit me like a ton of bricks. I exchanged vows, signed papers, and as we exited the registry, I couldn't shake the feeling of unease, and besides I've been emotionally drained since I came out of the police station.

"I think I'd like to go my own way from here. Thank you for today," I said after we came out the registry.

"But I brought you here; it's only right I take you back home," he replied, a hint of confusion in his voice.

“It's fine. No need for such formalities” I replied feeling drained and just wanted to lie down somewhere and rest
