Aria wasn't worried about the elders telling Prince Zane the truth about her relationship with General Caldwell, because he already knew the truth. She was worried about King Kaida finding out. If he found out about her involvement with General Caldwell before his death, he was going to see her as a betrayal because she didn't respect the deal she made with him. Aria couldn't make any excuse in front of King Kaida. Telling him that General Caldwell was her mate wasn't enough to justify her actions.
