*Kane's POV*
When I look out into the crowd, my eyes immediately stop on a pair of familiar blue ones. Violet? What the fuck? I blink a few times to make sure I’m not hallucinating. No. What is she doing here?
I sprint to the cage door and am swarmed instantly. “Get the fuck out of my way!” I shout and the crowd begins to part for me. I run over and see Violet standing there with a look of shock on her face and Striker right behind her.
“What the fuck are you doing here Violet?! You cannot be here! How did you even know where this was? How did you get in?” I’m panicking at this point. This is no place for a person like her.
“I went to your house to apologize and when you weren’t there I went to the gym and Blade was there and he-”
“Blade brought you here?! I’m gonna fucking kill him!” I scream and instantly look around trying to find him.
“No! Kane, it&
*Violet's POV*When I hear the sounds of my alarm I groan and bury my face further into Kane’s chest to get away from the sound. Kane. Everything that happened yesterday suddenly comes flooding back. I feel the bed shift and the alarm shut off.“Good Morning darling. How are you feeling?”“Like I got run over by a dump truck, which is surprisingly better than I felt yesterday,” I tell him, covering my face with my hands.“Maybe you should just stay in bed for the day,” He says, voice full of concern.“I can’t miss another day,” I say, still making no move to actually get up.“Why not? It’s not like it’s the end of the world to miss your class. The profs all have the slides and assignments online right?”“Yeah, but I feel like such a bum.”“Violet you’ve been so sick. I think it’s okay to take time to recover.&
*Kane's POV*It’s finally here. The day we go to my father’s house for the second time. Only this time, everything has changed. The task of pretending like I’m not madly in love with Violet seems so insurmountable at this point that I’m terrified we might both end up suffering. I haven’t told her how I feel and I don’t plan to. I won’t. Not unless I can somehow figure out how to unravel the knot my father created that can ruin my life and now hers too.I head out to pick her up from the dorms. She had to go back to pack her bags and spend some time with Stella before leaving. She feels like a bad roommate for spending so much time here which is absurd because Stella gets it and is completely fine hanging out with other people from the dorm. Violet is just very sensitive to other people’s feelings which is one of the things I love most about her but can also be very inconvenient at times. When I get to their b
*Violet's POV*As expected, I don’t sleep very well and when I wake up around 7am for probably the 10th time that night, I decide to just stop trying to go back to sleep and go for a run instead. Thankfully, I promised Lucas that I would help him set up for the party and get ready with him so I only have to deal with Harper and my mother until after lunch.I feel a little bad about this because I’m basically abandoning Kane in the house with his father but he told me he would just find somewhere else to hang out. When I return from my run, I see Harper coming down the stairs and I pull my headphones out of my ears.“Good morning Violet,” He says with a smile.“Good morning,” I reply with a smile that I hope doesn’t look as forced as it feels. When I had to hug him yesterday it took everything in me not to vomit.“Did you have a good run?”“Yes, I did. Thank you fo
*Violet's POV*I knock on Lucas’s front door and he opens it with a giant smile on his face and then hugs me.“Happy Birthday!” I say hugging him back.“Thank you! Come in, come in!”He guides me through the front door and I see that his house is equally as extravagant as Harper’s.“So, lunch with your mom, huh? What was that all about?”“Ugh, don’t even get me started. Mom wanted a girls morning so we went out to get our nails done and then for lunch like we used to do when I was little which was super nice so I agreed and then we got to lunch and guess who was there?”“One: let me see the nails, Two: Who?!”I hold my hand out and he gasps. “Okay, these are incredible. Now tell me who was at lunch!”“Christine and Shannon.”“Oh no. I mean that’s not a surprise but that’s very unfortu
*Kane's POV*When Lucas walks out of earshot, I look back towards Violet and ask, “Are you trying to kill me with that shirt?“Maybe,” she replies with a smirk.“So devious,” I reply and fight back a smile. Before she can reply, Lucas walks back in with my drink and says, “You know, you are allowed to sit on the furniture.”I roll my eyes but take a seat on the armchair closest to where Violet is sitting on the couch. I can’t help myself. Just then, we hear another knock on the door and Lucas says, “That’s going to get annoying. I should put a sign out or something,” before getting up and walking to the door.He comes back to the living room with Mark in tow and Violet smiles and stands up to hug him.“Hi! It’s so nice to see you again!” She says and I bite back the flare of jealousy. My logical brain reminds me he’s gay and I calm myself down.
*Violet's POV*After Lucas tells Mitch to fuck off I thank him and then say, “God that guys gives me the creeps.”“Yeah, he’s a sleaze bag.” I then see him looking at something behind me. “It looks like you might not have to worry about him anymore though.” I crane my neck and see Kane heading straight for Mitch through the crowd.“Uh oh,” I say and then move to go stop whatever is about to happen but Lucas holds me back and says, “No, no, let’s see what happens.” We all watch not-so-subtly as Kane steps in front of Mitch with his features set in a sinister glare and says a few words before Mitch puts his hands up in surrender and then just keeps walking.“Well that was anti-climactic,” Lucas says and we continue dancing before Kane can see us staring.“I wonder what he said to him,” I muse out loud.“Probably told him to b
*Kane's POV*When I drive onto campus and turn down the road that leads to Violet’s dorm, she looks over and says, “Where are you going?”“To your dorm,” I tell her. How does she not know where we are?“I know. But why aren’t we going to your house?”“You want to come over?”“Of course I do. Why wouldn’t I?”“I thought you weren’t feeling well.”“I’m feeling a lot better now. Besides I know this sounds stupid but, I miss you. Even though we were so close, it felt like you were so far.”“It doesn’t sound stupid. I feel the same way,” I turn the car around and head to the frat house and park outside.Basically the minute we make it into my room, Violet jumps on top of me and I make no move to stop her. I need this just as much as she does. I crave her touch just as much as she craves min
*Violet's POV*It takes me several seconds to process his words.“Wh- Why? Why is he not in jail? We need to go to the police!” I realize he’s never actually mentioned his mother before. I didn’t even think to ask about her.“No! We cannot go to the police!” he yells at me, panic lacing his tone.“Why not?! You witnessed him murder someone!”“Because, Violet, it’s a lot more complicated than that! You don’t understand.”“Then help me understand. Because from where I’m sitting, it looks an awful lot like you’re helping your father cover up his murders,” I say to him and instantly regret my words.“Don’t you dare accuse me of helping that man,” he says. His voice is so cold, a shiver runs down my spine.“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that. I-”“I know. You’re confused, and tha
