I turn around and I see him standing next to me, so close I can smell his fresh cologne. Alex smiles at me in a way that I can see he has perfectly aligned teeth. He is wearing a suit, trying to blend in, but his drop fade haircut along with his neck and hand tattoos make him stand out.
“What are you doing here? I told you I will give you your money... this is a private party, Alex.” I whisper to him nervously.
I let out a soft groan. My head is killing me. I press my face hard against the pillow. I suddenly startle as the memories from last night come to my mind. Did I dream it or did I actually told Leopold Beckett he was a bad guy and a jerk? Oh, no... I’m so getting fired! I look around and gasp. Where am I? This isn’t my bedroom! How did I get here? This room is at least three times the size of mine, the place is so big that the king-size bed looks small in here. The sheets a
(Leopold P.O.V.)Nate, my driver, stops the limousine right in front of the office building. I look at my Audemars Piguet watch. It’s 9:25 am. Great, I’m late again! My father is going to love giving me a hard time about it. I get out of the car and I reluctantly walk into the main lobby. Another long day in this office begins. I much rather go back to London, Ibiza, or Mykonos, or literally be at any other place on this planet except from here at Thunder Motors, Inc. Although I shouldn’t hate this company so much, a
(Leopold P.O.V.)“What?” My father asks baffled. David stares at me in disbelief.
(Emma’s P.O.V.)“What was that?!” I ask baffled the moment Mr. Beckett and Mr. Gleason close the office door behind them. What just happened? Did I just seriously pretend to be Leopold Beckett's fiancée? I can’t believe I just did that! I have no idea why he just asked me to say that lie, I only know I wasn’t able to say no to those puppy eyes of his... and that kiss... I was thrown off by that spectacular kiss. I’ve had a very confusing morning so far, waking up in Leopold’s apartm
“What do you mean you are going to move out?” Eddie asks outraged. “Are you seriously going to leave me alone?”“No, of course not, Eddie. I’m not abandoning you or anything like that. This is just temporary. My boss... he... he needs a full-time assistant for a while...” I lie.I wish I could tell my brother the truth, that I’m about to obtain the money to pay off his debt and make Alex disappear from our lives, but unfortunately, after everything that has happened, I don’t fully trust Eddie anymore. If he knows I’m going to
Mr. Beckett senior and his wife live in a mansion outside the city. My jaw drops as we drive thru the enormous perfectly illuminated garden, it looks like a place from a fairytale. On both sides of the mansion, there are two enormous stone fountains that look like they belong in a public park, not a private home.“They are impressive aren’t they?” Leopold asks referring to the fountains as he parks his red convertible in front of the mansion. “My mother had them sent from Italy. Apparently, local fountains are not good enough for her taste,” he says jokingly.
Leopold clearly has no clue about what to say, so I need to intervene.“It was so sweet,” I say improvising. “He... he took me to this beautiful place... in the woods...”“You took her to our family cabin?!” Mrs. Beckett asks outraged.I look at Leopold fearing I said something wrong. He squeezes my hand in a loving gesture.
The dinner seemed to last an eternity. I think that was as true for me as it was for Leopold; I was putting up with his mother looking daggers at me the entire time, while he was dealing with David’s passive-aggressive comments. On top of that, we are clearly not a very good fake couple, we kept saying the wrong thing about each other over and over. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Becketts conclude Leopold and I are in no way together, let alone engaged to each other. Luckily, this evening is finally over.“What we did tonight was stupid,” Leopold says as he drives us back to his apartment. “If we are going to pretend to be a couple, we have to get to know each other.”
