Can we trust?

Scarlett's pov

I couldn't move a muscle. Dumbfounded, I stared blankly at his motionless body that was lying in a pool of blood. Crimson droplets were scattered all over the room and the furniture. Surprisingly the place was neat. There were no signs of struggle in his quarters. He just lay on the floor as though he was sleeping. If only there wasn't a dagger sticking out of his torso.

I craned my neck, trying to get a better look at him. His shirt wasn't ripped nor were there signs of a fight. Then how did that dagger end up buried in his chest?

"Alpha!" Gavin exclaimed, stepping forward, and glancing at me.

"Star? Hey," he faced me and started to tap my cheeks, perhaps thinking that I had gone into a state of shock.

I sucked a breath in, my eyes still on his body. My father couldn't be dead, could he? Maybe his heart was still beating. Maybe we could still save him…

I took tentative steps towards him, staring at his chest, secretly hoping that I saw a sign of life in him. I wishe
