The ride back to the mansion was quiet. All that filled Amelia’s thoughts were questions she had no answers to. Why did they have to do that? Why were they so happy that she had no idea who her real parents were? What could her parents have done to be tagged betrayals? She furrowed her brow as she gazed outside watching the landscape. She had always wanted to be free from them, but now all she wanted was to be close enough to know the truth. How unpredictable life can be.

Mike glanced at her, “Don’t think about it too much. They might have lied to you and are not your real family, but I am. I am your family and Anne is also your family.”

She swapped her head towards him, and he flashed her one of those rare smiles. “I won’t lie to you.”

She nodded because she knew it was true.
