"Kayden," he began, his voice measured and calm, "please come." His words carried an over welcoming essence which Kayden didn't like. He hates fakeness.

Kayden Knight stood in the doorway, his expression unreadable. He hesitated for a moment before stepping into the room, his gaze flickering briefly over Adam before settling on the floor.

Rose bustled into the room with a tray of steaming tea, the fragrant aroma wafting through the air. She wore a worried expression, lines of concern etched into her features.

"Get some tea for us, Rose," Adam instructed gently, his eyes softening as he regarded his wife.

Kayden remained silent, a silent observer in the midst of their familial turmoil. He understood the boundaries, knowing that some matters were meant for family alone.

"Eleanor is... a little emotional," Adam explained, his tone carefully neutral. "You know how it is." It was a half-truth, a vague attempt to shield Kayden from the full extent of their daughter's struggles.
