Chapter 6: Smart

"Is there still no news?" Yazed's greeted his friend who came.

He shook his head, which made Yazed dejected. He wanted his mother to continue to recover and one of the people he thought could help her fast recovery was the person she kept mentioning.

"But there's something strange about her disappearance."

Yazed frowned. "What do you mean?" he asked Dexter.

"She doesn't have a single picture since the incident happened to her family."

"Really?" Yazed thought deeply as well. He just thought of that thing now.

"Strange, right?" Dexter asked as his index finger caressed his chin.

"Did you talk to her aunt or the people who live in the Garcias' home?" he thought to ask Dexter.

"That's also one of the things I'm confused about."

"Why?" Yazed's forehead furrowed again.

"Everyone's mouths were shut. Even the housemates didn’t want to talk about Jenny. As if she doesn't exist in this world."

"What do you think is the reason?"

"I have no idea. But do you think, they are hiding something?" Dexter asked Yazed.

Yazed shrugged. "Gather information. What they are doing is out of ordinary. They must be keeping a secret."

Dexter nodded at him. "But it would have been easier for us to find her if we had at least a picture of her. We're like finding a needle in a haystack."

"Yes. But, please do your best to find her." Yazed pleaded with his friend who was handling the case of the missing Jenny.

"Why don't you just accept the position offered to you in the Garcias’ company? Maybe we can get more information about Jenny there."

Yazed thought for a moment. The last will and testament of the couple Dalia and Daryl included his name, which was read to him by their family lawyer.

When he is of legal age, he can choose any high position in companies owned by them. In return, love and protect their only child.

At first, when he heard about it, he thought it sounded absurd. Jenny was missing, she was nowhere to be found. How could he love and protect someone he didn't even know if dead or alive? If only fate can bring them together, he promised to follow the will of the Garcia couple. He will protect her. But love? He wasn't sure. He can't force his heart to beat for a love that just started in a kind of agreement.

"I'll think about it." Yazed answered him. When Dexter said goodbye, he stayed in his mother's room and hoped she will wake up.

"BOSS…"

Edwin was playing golf in his vast garden. He turned to his henchman.

"We have gathered information that some people are investigating the case of the Garcia family." Edwin's staff reported to him.

Edwin's face suddenly reflected a mixture of fear and surprise. "What do you mean?"

"There are men who came to their old house and asked about important details."

"Like what?"

"They are looking for your godchild." The man replied to Edwin.

"Jenny?" He asked, unsure.

"Yes, boss. They are also asking for pictures of her."

"And who are they?" There was irritation in Edwin's voice because of the news.

"We don't know yet, boss."

"Stupid!" He hit the man with the golf club. "If you report to me, make sure it's complete and detailed!" He shouted at him.

"We'll find out, boss." The man replied with his head bowed.

"Leave before I kill you!" He glared as he pushed the man away from his face.

The man quickly turned away while Edwin was left in deep thought.

"Whoever you are, I'll make sure you don't succeed." Edwin grinned widely. He had come so far, he won't let himself fall and fail.

Edwin will not allow to lose his power and rights to the Garcia's businesses. He will do everything to find Jenny first. Because according to the last will and testament, all their wealth will go to the orphanage when the sole heiress died.

"You're smart, but I'm smarter." Edwin laughed as he inwardly insulted his deceased friends.

He had already planned something that will give him the full power and rights to their inheritance. He will marry his son off to Jenny when he found her.

...

"ARE you okay?" Jenny asked James.

"H-Huh?" James seemed surprised.

"I noticed that you've been constantly glancing at me. Do you want to say something?"

"Uhm…" James scratched his head, hesitant to speak.

"Say it. What is it?" She asked James impatiently again.

"Because your godfather is looking for you."

The look on Jenny's face changed, it darkened and she glared at James. "We're not relatives!"

James sighed and averted his eyes from her. He knew she was angry because he mentioned the name of the person she hated.

"Are you not worried? The world you two live in is small. Sooner or later, your paths will cross." James asked her.

"I am not afraid. I have been waiting for years for us to meet again. But what's the news about the thing I asked you to look into?" Jenny said bravely.

"I came here to bring you that news. I finally saw the person who shot your parents. He came last night from a long time of hiding in Hong Kong." James referred to one of Edwin's henchmen.

"And why did he think of coming back after years of hiding?" Jenny was intrigued by the news he brought.

"Because his group will have a big operation soon. You know that he is one of Edwin's most trusted people."

"Good. Then, we will be killing two birds with one stone." Jenny's face reflected the excitement she felt.

Her excitement only lasted for a moment. She drew a bitter smile on her lips as she realized her long-sought revenge was approaching.

...

"HURRY UP and unload those!" The man commanded to everyone there.

James secretly observed the group while their leader was busy making orders. Four vehicles were parked in front of an old and abandoned building full of contraband boxes.

"Will you be careful!?" Lando shouted at the staff. "You!" He pointed at James. "Guard the gate! Make sure no policeman will get suspicious!"

"Okay, boss." James replied politely to the man.

The order was in James' favor because he was waiting for a chance to carry out their plan. He headed to the back of the building. In front of the building, some armed men were standing there.

When he made sure no one was around, he whistled as a signal to the two shadows lurking in the darkness. They carefully went through the small gate.

"How many are they?" Jenny asked James in a whisper.

"Nine are inside, four at the entrance gate and five are guarding the outside of the main door. Everyone is armed."

"Thank you," Jenny said as she looked around.

"Go ahead. Be careful." James quickly turned around and left the two. He went first to make sure no one was there for his friends.

James had just returned to his job when he saw one of the opponents near where he was. His two friends had to pass, thus he had to eliminate the threat.

"Dude, do you have a cigarette?" James asked his companion when he turned to him.

"It's in the pocket of my jacket." He pointed to the garment on a chair.

"Argh!"

James quickly covered the man's mouth so as not to create a noise after he hit him with a gun on his nape.

Jenny immediately pulled the unconscious man's body. They hid him in a secret place after James knocked him out. Their action was quick and they entered the next hiding place.

"Did you see, Jano?" asked another man who approached James.

"He asked to use the toilet, do you have anything to order him?" James replied to the man as he slid one hand in the pocket of the pants he was wearing.

"Tsk, that man is really something. Why doesn't he just live in the bathroom." The man complained. "I'll pass it to you, take this to Boss Lando." He handed James the thick envelope.

James knew the person he was referring to. This was their goal and now he had the chance to get close to it. James nodded and accepted the thing. His two friends had already entered the yard, so he can go inside.

James whistled again before heading inside to inform the two. His comrades no longer paid attention to his behavior because from the very beginning, it had been his habit to whistle.

"Why did you bring that? Where's Jano?" Lando asked the less-known person who entered.

"I think his stomach is upset again, boss, so I brought it to you instead." James looked around the room. There were two men holding guns, they were standing next to the man he was talking to.

"What else are you looking at there?" he scolded the man. "Give me that, boss has been waiting for it!" Lando glared at James.

Lando was about to stand up when the door suddenly opened. Two people entered with their faces covered and only their eyes could be seen. They were armed and their guns were pointed directly at them.
