Chapter 15

Raphael's POV.

I stood there in the parking lot and watched Renia disappear inside. I didn't expect our conversation to take that kind of turn. I was going to comfort her and try to put her mind at rest. She was out of it since the doctor told us about her health condition. She was staring off into space the entire journey back home. I was worried that she might slip into depression or worse, maybe get suicidal. I got out of the car and was going to comfort her. She didn't even realize that we arrived home already.

I was going to comfort her until I looked at her and saw her eyes— those eyes that I despise with my entire being— and I just lost my cool after that and lashed out at her. I knew I went too far by questioning her character and bringing up the alcohol and cigarettes was a low blow but that is exactly why I married her in the first place.
