14 | Honesty

"Are you happy?"

I looked up. My act of pretending to be busy with my laptop was distracted by Mom's question.

It was just the two of us at home this morning. After last night's drama with Sol asking me to be his girlfriend, I came home feeling terrible. As a result, I couldn't sleep all night and I had two big dark circles under my eyes.

"Of course, Mom. I'm happy now." I replied with a big question mark in my head.

"Are you happy that we are your parents?"

I frowned, confused by Mom's strange sounding question.

"Mom, what's wrong? Why are you asking me that?"

Mom seemed to take a long breath. Her movements in our living room stopped.

School was out for the day. So I can stay home for a long time. Since I had half kicked Sol out last night, he wasn't coming over now either.

"How's your relationship with Sergey?"

"Mom," I protested quietly, "can we not talk about that right now? Our focus is on finding out where Sergey is."

"He's home."

I blinked and gave a fake smile. "That's good. I
