Chapter 33

David decided that they would have a Korean traditional wedding. To begin the ceremony her stepmother Jenna along with David’s female friend Jin performed the Jum-chok Rye. It turns out that since David’s mother had already passed away, Bryan’s friend Kim’s wife, Jin takes the role traditionally assigned to the mother in the wedding procession. They lit candles to invoke the god of heaven to be present at the ceremony by sending up candle flames. Jin lit a red candle and Jenna lit a blue candle. They ended by bowing toward each other and then toward the guests.

David entered with Bryan carrying a wooden goose. Once they got to the front David handed the goose to my father. It is said that the goose keeps the promise of love forever. The goose was placed on the table with its head facing west while David bowed to the floor twice. My father took the small table with the goose where my family was seated.

Anna walked down the aisle to take her position on the west with David on the east
