Ch.2- Over my dead body

Five Years' Later

Alpha Zach Hilton, a god of business, a king of entertainment industries, and the alpha of alpha's, sat in his office armchair, looking at the city below him. In the city, a warm wind blew as people sat in parks, relishing the strength they had lost during their day of work.

The sky had turned orange, with pink rays illuminating all over the place. It was obvious that the day was already over as school students skipped over the road heading back home and everyone in general.

The temperatures between the city and Alpha Zach's office were quite different. While everyone outside was covered with the warmth of the setting sun, his office was freezing cold due to his aura.

Three men were standing behind him, their heads hanging low, and constantly, they'd try hard to wipe sweat dropping over their heads with shaky hands.

They all whimpered when suddenly, the god business and the ruthless Alpha to ever exist swiveled on his chair and turned to eye them.

Their eyes darted all over the office, looking at anything but the Alpha's cold-piercing, icy blue eyes that had the ability to turn any room he walked into into a gigantic freezing bathtub.

“Report!.“ One word, and the three men came running beside him, all handing over their reports to him.

“Twelve new artists have been signed under ZH Entertainment. They have already written and recorded their debut song, 'Under the Midnight Sky', which will be officially released on June 2.

They also have a huge fan base, even though they haven't officially debuted yet, so we have a huge hope in them.“ The first one was reported.

The second one quickly cleared his throat and took over the other. "The underground mafia street that sells all the illegal drugs in the entire city has been successfully taken down as you had wanted; however, their leader is missing, and we should expect an attack soon since, naturally, he will fight back.

Also, the latest jewelry brand has arrived, and 75 percent of it is already sold out in all our shops in the entire world.“

The third person, who has already zoomed off, thinking what God knows, was elbowed by the guy next to him. “Sorry for zoning out,” he chuckled akwardly and then continued,” the shares of the Z empire have increased by tenfold since you announced your collaboration with them. Their CEO…“

He was cut short: ”Tell him I am not available.“

“Yes Alpha.“ The guy stepped back like the other two, waiting for a dismissal.

“About what I had assigned all of you to do, any progress?“ He suddenly asked, rose from his chair, and walked to the wine cellar across the room.

“Unfortuabtely, no report, Alpha, but we are doing our best." The first guy to report, who looked older than the rest, bowed his head in respect.

“You may leave.“ He said so while simultaneously raising his hand to dismiss them.

When he was sure they had gone, he walked to the door, locked it from inside, and then walked back to the black leather sofa in the room adjacent to his office.

He poured himself a glass of wine and gulped it in one go. Ditching the idea of drinking wine with a glass, he pushed it aside and lifted the bottle to his lips, which he gulped like a mere bottle of water.

A deep, tired sigh escaped his lips as he leaned on the couch, closed his eyes, and pinched his brows. “I thought you weren't the one, but why am I always missing you, Wendy?“ He asked no one in particular.

The last five years have been the worst for Alpha Zach.

When he never cared about Wendy, it was because he thought he never loved her. The main reason he agreed to marry her after she turned out to be his mate years ago was not because his grandfather insisted.

It was because he thought she would help her forget about Venessa, but she never did.

There was always an emptiness in his heart, which he thought only Venessa could fill, so even when she appeared out of the blue, he forgot how she had cheated on him multiple times and took her back.

He had been like her puppet, doing what she wanted him to do, and before he could know it, he had forgotten that he had someone at home who genuinely loved him but not his money, looks, or power.

For three years, all he could do was belittle Wendy and not acknowledge her. His plan was to bully her until she rejected him all by herself, but the girl never did that.

She endured all the pain he caused her, swallowed every bitter word he yelled at her, and served her like a wife was supposed to serve her husband.

Although he never touched her, she never even dared to go behind her back and find a man to herself, which was something she could do if she wanted to since men were always ogling her.

She was a rare beauty—a beauty never seen in their pack. She had green eyes, long natural green hair that flowed to her ass, a pointed nose, pink small lips, and a great figure that would make any man idolize her.

It was sad that he had started appreciating that beauty too late.

She was also a great Luna; she fought many battles to make sure the pack members were treated equally, established schools for the special kids, built children's homes, and the best of all was that she had all the orphans out there call her mother.

Although she had no child of her own, she had already found herself with thousands and thousands of kids who were devastated when news that she had died of fire spread.

The entire nation mourned for her. They even had a gold sculpture of her image made on top of the mansion where she lived for three years, with the words 'Mother of the Nation' sculpted on top of it.

Students all over the world took turns cleaning and putting fresh flowers on top of it every week. A huge garden of black roses was planted. They made sure that the roses surrounded the sculpture and the mansion, since she loved black roses most.

The nation passed a compulsory holiday for all the kids she had raised to visit the mansion and clean it every month. It wasn't about cleaning; every student was supposed to always come with black apple seedlings, which were scattered all over the place near the mansion.

It was the nation's way to honor her and keep her alive in their hearts forever.

Yes, Wendy Queen was fond of black apples as well.

Since that incident three years ago, Alpha Zach has never set foot in that mansion. Images of Wendy would haunt him if he dared to do so. He had lived there for a year but left all by himself.

He had grown up hearing that love can turn someone blind, but he turned stupid as well.

How could he not see that it was Wendy he loved and not Venessa?

“Guess the person who said we will start valuing the importance of a person once they are gone was right.“ He murmured to himself while walking to the wine cellar to grab another bottle. This time he skipped a wine and took a bottle of beer.

He wanted something strong, something that would take his pain away.

After Wendy died in the fire, like he had ordered, he got married to Venessa the next day and accepted her as his chosen mate in front of the world.

Although he always had her by his side, he always felt that something was missing. Whenver this feeling comes haunting him, he will find himself driving to the mansion he had gifted Wendy and stare at it for so many hours.

It was through this habit and with the help of his therapist that he knew it was Wendy he loved.

Wendy was his sedative, and even though she wasn't there any longer, inhaling her scent was enough to calm him down. It was a good thing that the fire engine arrived when only the room he had asked her to be locked in had burned down.

The rest of the room was untouched, and her scent always lingered inside it, especially in the living room area, where she had spent all her time waiting for him.

He would always come home late after having his goodtime with Venessa and find her lying on a black couch, which was the only couch in the house facing the door waiting for him.

He would click angrily, sometimes even spit on her since she disgusted him, and head to his room. They have had separate rooms since Wendy's arrival in his life.

He wouldn't even dare touch the food she had cooked for him. Once in a while, when he was too tired to go to a restaurant, he would bring Venessa back with him, and they would eat all the food Wendy had cooked and retire to his room even without waking her up.

He was going to admit that Wendy's dishes were amazing. He had always thought that if it weren't for her reputation to be damaged, she would have been the greatest of chefs.

On the thought of her ruined reputation, he put the bottle of beer on the table and took out his phone.

“Lucas, have you done what I asked you to?“ He asked when the person picked up.

“Yes, Alpha,” the voice responded, then continued, "it's like you guessed Alpha Zach. The guy who was found in a hotel with the late Luna Wendy two years ago was paid to spike her drink and drag her with him to a hotel room. According to the guy's confession, he didn't rape the late Luna Wendy, although that was what he was asked to do.“

“Why is it that he had a change of mind?“ Alpha Zach asked, curiosity taking the best of him.

“While confessing, he said that the entire night, in her drunken state, the late Luna Wendy talked about you. How much she had loved you at first sight, and show she is looking forward to you finally loving and accepting her and your mate. The guy even said that she already had names for your future kids, which she hoped to have with you someday.

He said this confession made him change his mind. So, he only took pictures of her and him naked and spread them on the internet, but he never touched her.“

“Thank you.“ Alpha Zach's voice changed as he said so.

His hands clenched into fists. He smashed the bottle of beer on the glass table and growled as they both dropped to the floor as glass shards.

“Have you found who paid this guy to do all that?“ He growled out the question, his eyes taking on the color of the beast within him.

Recovering from his fear, since he had no idea if Alpha Zach was mad at him or not, Lucas responded. “Yes, Alpha. A person with the initial H signed the check.“

“You can hang up!“ he ordered, and without waiting for Lucas's response, he smashed the phone against the wall and stormed out of his office.

Like all the accusations pinned on Wendy, they were all wrong.

How could he never see that?

Why was it that he never believed her?

From Wendy cheating on him, pushing his mother over the balcony, stealing his latest watches and selling them at second-hand stores for cheap prices, and bringing multiple men when he was out for business trips, they were all lies, and they all connected to that person with the initial H.

Just who the hell is this demon?

And how could this person pull off all these lies with evidence and everything he needed to see in order to believe?

Still in his unconscious state of mind, Alpha Zach walked out of his office to his car parked in the garage and zoomed to a certain place.

There were no kids around, so the place was quiet and peaceful. He walked in front of the huge sculpture and raised his head to look up at it. There was a water fountain above it that made sure that all the roses underneath it would never run dry.

With tears coming out of his eyes, Zach fell to his knees. “I am sorry, Wendy. I am sorry that I never believed you. I am sorry that you had to die young because of my selfishness, but don't worry. Prepare yourself to rest in peace because I am going to hunt this H down and finish them off.“ His eyes glowed red.

After he had enough crying, Alpha Zach rose to his feet, dusted his knee area, and walked to his car. With one last glance at the statue, he screamed loud enough, not minding that someone might hear him, "I am sorry, Wendy, please do forgive me" before getting in his car and driving away.

On top of the mansion, just beside the sculpture, a woman with green hair that was tied into a ponytail, green eyes that sparkled with hatred below her, a long pointed nose, and pinkish small lips scoffed, "You are sorry? I should forgive you! Over my dead body! And as for vengeance, am I going to do it all by myself? Prepare! Just prepare!“

A little girl, around five years old, an exact copy of the woman beside the sculpture, with her green hair let loose and her green eyes sparkling with curiosity, asked, "Mother, who is that man screaming that you forgive him?“

“Just a demon that I need to teach a lesson, baby.“ She bent to her level and helped her tie her hair into a messy bun.

“And why does this statue look like you?“ Her eyes traveled up to it.

“Because mommy is loved.“

“Mmh,” The girl hummed, then, with curiosity still in her eyes, she asked again, "So that demon you are going to teach a lesson, is he a bad demon? Like the one I see in movies and read in books?“

“He is worse than them, honey, and yes, mother is going to bend him on his knees in front of the entire nation.“ She responded, her eyes following a black car until it disappeared out of sight.
