Chuckling to himself, Brandon stood up and strolled to the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking down at the ever busy streets of New York. Pulling in a deep breath and letting it out in a slowly, he grinned at the thought of what that evening meant to him. At the thought of Beth saying yes.

'She could say no, too,' his subconscious butted in.

Running his tongue over his teeth, he straightened his shoulders and stared at his reflection in the glass. Then frowned. Why? What reason would she have to say no?

"Aren't you looking all daper?"

Brandon's entire body stiffened. Almost instantly, a feeling akin to dread licked at his guts. As his mind ran around how it was that she had been able to get in and why, his ears picked up on her movement around his office, picking up papers and humming to herself.

Easing his hands into his pockets, he turned his head slightly and found her in his periphery.

"What do you want, Margaret?"
