Chapter 34

I sighed for the umpteenth time, lifting my eyes to glare at the duo sitting across from me. They'd been staring since the moment we started eating, and even after my reassurance, they still didn't believe that Jessica wasn't going to act.

"Are you going to eat or you'll keep staring at my face." I dropped my fork, leaning back to fully examine their faces.

Cora had a spoon raised in the air, her mouth wide open and a brow arched questioningly. Paige was looking directly at me, her spoon fiddling with the half-finished meal in front of her.

"Nobody is staring at you. You're not that good-looking." Cora muttered, shoving the spoon into her mouth and swallowing.

I waved her off, turning to look at Paige who was nibbling at the corner of her mouth. I placed a palm atop hers and her gaze flickered to mine,

"Eat," I coaxed, pushing her tray closer, "I'll be fine. I promise."

She searched my eyes for what seemed like an eternity...then finally, her shoulders sagged in resignation.

"Okay."
