ONE HUNDRED AND FOUR

I huddled in a dark cave that we had used to hide from the winged beast, my body humming with relief to be free from the damn thing. It hadn't been easy but Rae had suppressed my every expectation with her determination to get us free.

"Are you ok?" I asked her, noting that her every breath was a struggle. I tried to calm my racing heart knowing that her fighting to soothe me wouldn't be helping at all. Rae had managed to get us away from the flying monster, and for that, I was grateful because it had come at a great cost to her as it hadn’t been easy.

"Do I seem ok?" She barked back harshly. I stayed silent allowing her a moment to catch her breath and process, but it wasn't long before she was pacing back and forth in our confined hiding spot, her agitation palpable.

"I don't like this place. I can't make heads or tails of it." She spewed and I could feel her desperation seeping into me, her frustration growing with each passing second.
