Jenna felt awkward walking into the kitchen. She found Kai sitting at the table, and almost walked straight back out again--her cheeks burning as she remembered the events of the previous night.

When Kai glanced up and smiled, Jenna realised he did not share her feelings of shyness. He looked happy to see her.

"I saved you a pop tart," he said, sliding a plate across the table.

Jenna couldn't help but smile. "I haven't had one of these things since I was a kid."

Kai chuckled. "You think it's childish?"

"I think it's better than your cooking," Jenna joked, hoping he would see the funny side and not take offence.

"Hey!" he cried and punched her in the arm. Thankfully, he was still smiling.

His eyes lingered on her for a moment before he returned to his pastry, devouring it in two bites. With his sleeve, he wiped jam from his mouth, coughed and stood.

"Eat it on the way," he ordered.

Jenna looked up at the clock. "But it's not even half eight yet."
