Chapter 20
Lexi watched the video over and over before finally messaging the guy—Edward.
"What do you want?" she asked him.
Instead of replying, he sent another video. The scene in this one was familiar, but only because it was the field of the school she had attended. The one her brother went to.
'And Jayce.'
Jayce didn't feature heavily in the video, she realised, though he was present. The main focus was her brother, who punched another guy in the face before turning to Alfie Peters and beating the crap out of him. She winced as the poor lad's nose exploded into a burst of red and had to look away. When she glanced back at the screen, she saw him crawling to Sam, and for a wonderful moment Sam looked unsure.

Sam smiled to himself as he checked his messages. Alfie had reached out to him, asking to talk to him one on one. The tone of the message was polite, almost pleading, so he figured it couldn't hurt. She'd yet to find an excuse to wear it, despite loving it when she'd found it on sale at her favourite store. After tottering down the stairs in her heels she almost fell as Sam stepped out of the living room at the most unfortunate moment. "Sorry," he muttered before looking her up and down. "What are you so dressed up for?"
