Chapter 45

Emily had a deep breath and nodded. "Okay, I'm in. What's the plan?"

The man grinned. "First, we need to get you and your husband to safety. The boss is going to be coming after you now that you have that evidence."

Emily felt a pang of fear in her chest. "How do we get to safety?"

"I have a safe house a few hours away from here," the man said. "We can take you there."

Emily hesitated. "What about the evidence? We need to get it to the authorities."

"We'll do that, too," the man said. "But we need to make sure you're safe first."

Emily nodded. "Okay, let's do it."

They made their way back to Ethan's car and the man gave them directions to the safe house. They drove in silence for a while, each lost in their thoughts.

Finally, Ethan spoke up. "Do you trust that guy?"

Emily hesitated. "I don't know. But we don't have a choice at this point."

Ethan nodded. "I just don't want you to get hurt."

"I'll be okay," Emily said, placing a reassuring hand on his arm.

They arrived at the safe house
