Chapter 46

The men took them to a dark basement, and they were thrown into a corner. Emily winced in pain as her body hit the concrete floor, and she could feel her arms starting to bruise from the man's grip.

Ethan got up, anger boiling in his veins. He walked up to the boss and got into his face.

"You think you can scare us into submission?" Ethan asked, his voice cold and hard. "You have no idea who you're dealing with."

The boss laughed again. "Oh, I think I do. You're just a washed-up former detective, and she's just a pretty face with a trust fund. You're nothing compared to me."

Emily watched as Ethan's fists clenched tighter, and she knew he was about to explode. She reached out and touched his arm, hoping to calm him down.

But before she could say anything, the boss's phone rang. He answered it, and Emily could hear a voice on the other end.

"What do you mean they're missing?" the boss growled into the phone. "Find them, and find them fast. I want them dead."
