CHAPTER FORTY NINE

Tremont emptied his fourth glass of whiskey, maybe it was his fifth...or sixth...maybe seventh. He didn't keep count.

Alone in the dim lights of his living room, he couldn't seem to get rid of the turmoil in his chest. He had never felt so irritable, he wanted to rest or sleep, but he could do neither.

Why wasn't she arriving? He thought. 

When he had instructed the driver and had gone back in search of Aurora, he hadn't seen her there.  

He wondered where she could have gone. Worry if anything bad had happened gnawed at his heart. She also barely had recovered from the illness. 

He should never have allowed her to leave the car but he'd been so furious and confused. 

She had been nothing but trouble from the very first moment she stepped into his life. He'd meant to punish her with that kiss, but it was he who was currently being tormented. He couldn't stop thinking how good
