Chapter 2

Jessica's POV

"I'm divorcing you!" I said again seriously as I looked up at Zander.

Zander stopped and turned his head to look at me in surprise.

After a few moments of silence, he said, "What is this new tactic to get my attention? Jessica, you're a grown-up, don't waste your breath. I'm tired from work and I don't have time to play with you."

He was about to go back to his room when he finished speaking.

Looking at the familiar back, I don't know where a surge of courage came from.

I stood up and walked quickly to Zander, raising my arm to stop him. I said firmly, "Get a divorce, Zander."

"Stop being irrational!" He grabbed my wrist and threw it aside.

I stumbled and almost fell. When I turned my head, I saw Zander looking at me with disgust in his eyes.

He said in a mocking tone, "Divorce me? The mansion you live in now, the jewels you own, and all the lavish life you enjoy are all from me. Are you sure you want to divorce me? And then go back to your useless father?"

When I heard his sarcastic words, my mouth opened in surprise and I couldn't say anything for long.

It was true that my family was different from Zander's. My father Johnny was a retired soldier.

He had run a small business over the years, mostly machining parts. The profits were meager and nothing to write home about compared to the Harrison Group.

But I never let that get me down. When Zander and I met, he never showed any disdain for my family.

I didn't expect something like this to come out of his mouth.

"You know I don't care about those luxuries." I unconsciously tried to explain.

"Don't call yourself so noble." Zander stood up straight and looked at me condescendingly, "You're wearing a limited edition Chanel dress. You couldn't afford a dress by yourself. You're already wearing it, so don't say you don't care."

It turned out that he had noticed the dress I was wearing. But he had forgotten what the dress meant to us.

I scoffed.

Why should I expect anything from a jerk?

I kicked my shoes aside and looked at Zander, "I can return all this to you. I just have one request, divorce. I don't want to live with a jerk who cheated on me anymore."

"Cheating?" Zander frowned. There was a flash of disbelief in his eyes, but soon they were cold again.

"Stop acting. I know about you and Serena." I said, thinking about the morning, and once again my heart ached.

"What did you say?" Zander frowned at me and I looked at him without flinching.

After a few moments, he let out a soft smile and said, "Yes, you bored me in bed like a dead fish. Serena is far more interesting than you. And you know what? She's really good at it."

"Shame on you!"

"Are you so incapable of accepting reality? Jessica?" Zander sneered.

I looked at him and pretended to be relaxed, "You know what? Mr. One Minute, I feel nothing but disgust when I f*ck you."

"Jessica!" Zander's stormy voice rang out.

There was a flash of pain in his eyes. I thought I had misread him, but I didn't care anymore.

I walked barefoot on the cold floor and quickly entered the bedroom.

Zander followed me in.

I knew he was standing in the doorway, but I didn't care. I immediately opened the closet and pulled out a suitcase.

I put the designer clothes aside, started to rummage through my own clothes, and stuffed them into the suitcase.

"What are you doing?"

Zander came over and pulled on my wrist. It was very hard and I felt pain in my wrist.

I shook his hand as hard as I could, but I failed.

I gritted my teeth and said through the pain, "I can take your coldness, your ignorance. But I can't take your betrayal. I don't want to be in the same room with you. Breathing the same air as you makes me sick.

Zander froze for a moment. I felt his grip on my wrist loosen a bit and I shook him off immediately.

I turned and continued packing.

There was so little stuff, the only things I owned were two T-shirts and a few pairs of jeans.

I looked at those expensive jewelry and clothes, unimpressed.

I closed my suitcase and turned around.

Zander's eyes were on me, slightly red.

"Put the stuff back." He said in a threatening tone.

"I'm leaving first. Contact me if you find out and want to talk about a divorce." As if I hadn't heard him, I finished and planned to leave.

At that moment, my phone suddenly rang.

I put down my suitcase and picked it up.

"Hello, Mrs. Harrison. This is Reid Marriage Counseling Center and I'm calling to confirm a time for you to come in for counseling."

"Cancel my reservation, thank you," I said calmly.

"What?" She asked in surprise.

"Because I am planning on ending this marriage. So no more counseling, thank you." Having said that, I hung up the phone.

As I tried to pull out my suitcase, I realized I couldn't.

I turned my head and saw Zander pulling on the suitcase with one hand.

"Let go." I said impatiently.

"I damn well told you to put your stuff back!" Zander snapped. He yanked the suitcase over with one hand and I was almost dragged over with it.

I let go and he kicked the suitcase right into it, making a loud noise.

Then it rolled a few times on the floor and fell against the wall.

The lock on the suitcase was broken and my clothes were scattered.

I covered my mouth in surprise and looked at Zander. His eyes were red and he was gasping for air.

It was the first time I'd seen him so angry in all the years we'd been married.

I can't stay with this violent man.

He scared me and made me feel dangerous.

I didn't say anything. I tugged on my bag and headed for the door.

But I hadn't taken two steps before Zander pulled me back. He clamped one hand around my wrist and gripped my chin with the other.

"I don't like disobedient women." Zander looked at me, his tone cruel.

"What are you doing? Let go of me!" I desperately tried to break his grip with the hand that wasn't restrained, but I failed.

The next second, I was thrown onto the bed by him.

I struggled to get up. But he directly pounced on the bed and pinned me down.
