I stood, pacing up and down endlessly as I tried to come up with different reasons why Richard wasn't home yet. There had to be something. It was days already, and he wasn't home yet. I knew that I was supposed to hate him.

I flicked my head around, gazing at the door which was pulled open, the smile that had lighted on my face a minute ago faded when I saw who it was. It wasn't Richard.

“ Mother…?” I whispered out loud, wanting to be sure that I wasn't dreaming. She didn't like Richard so the last thing that I was thinking was her being here, so what exactly was she doing here?
