31. Damon's Denial

I stared at Damon, my heart heavy with grief. We had just lost our child, Becca, in our own garden. And it was all his fault.

"Elysia, what are you saying?" Damon yelled, his eyes brimming with fury. He grabbed my arm tightly, leaning in close to me. "If it turns out that the person who murdered Becca is found, you will pay for thinking I could have done such a thing."

"It was your gun that shot her, Damon," I said, my voice shaking with anger. "I asked you to keep it away, but you left it there. And Becca played with it. You can't blame someone else for this. You have to take responsibility for your actions."

Damon's eyes narrowed, and he released my arm, stepping back from me. "This isn't over, Elysia," he said, his voice cold and menacing. "I will make you pay for accusing me of such a thing."
