91. Another Wife

I sighed with contentment as his hands ran through my back. I couldn't remember the last time he showed any affection.

I was careful not to utter a word, I didn't want to ruin the moment. He was sure to pull away from me if he felt rattled.

The hand on my back stopped its movement and I almost hissed. The disappointment was clear as day on my face but he couldn't see it. I could hear his heartbeat and for some strange reason, the sound and rhythm of the beating soothed me.

It made me calm, a feeling I wasn't accustomed to since I lost my memory.

I heard the rumble when he cleared his throat. He muttered something, I wasn't sure what but he repeated it.

"I want to adopt Zara's child."

I felt like a cold bucket has been poured on me. Suddenly, the hug made sense. He was preparing me for this. I couldn't lash out, that would make me look childish.
