“Where are we going?”

“My room.” His tone was all business. Perrin’s large frame navigated through the busy pack lobby. I guess we weren’t the only ones to leave the engagement party early.

Engagement party? No. Full-blown circus act.

But the last thing I wanted to–or could think about–was my mother right now. Perrin was with me. Finally. And this was all I wanted. My heart had been hammering non-stop from the second I showed up at the pack house to discover where he had gone; my daydream of our reunion shifting quickly to involve way too many people.

But there he had been, eyes shining and mirroring the relief that I felt, appearing before me in the middle of the dance floor like our bond had summoned him to my side. It was as though nobody else had been there; no crowd to navigate or people between us.
