Chapter 23 (The Mate's Pull)

Lugard's Pov

I hear the telephone ring, I snap, raising my body a little, and I feel a strange heaviness. Memories of last night bounce in my head, and instantly, l shoot my eyes open.

And for the first time in my life, I woke up to the rising sun, and come to think of it, I didn't have a nightmare, this was the best night I have ever had.

I look on my side and find her pretending to be deep asleep. I shake my head and then smile as I look around my room. Clothes scattered everywhere, my suit, shirt, her pants etcetera etcetera.

"Wake up, Anna, get up and return the chair to its position. I know you are wide awake. Come on." She does not smile or flinch, is she really asleep? I call her twice and she opens her eyes slightly. She stares around and she yells.

"What am I doing here in your room and…and in…your bed?" Her voice trembles as she speaks. I shake my head, looking at her while she checks herself beneath the sheet.
