Since Derek didn't have a horse and we needed to leave Peter's horse, Onyx, so that he could get safely back to the castle, Derek rode with me on Henry for our journey back.

Derek and Gemma had dug up at least half a dozen turmeric roots to take back to the castle with us to hopefully help Maddie. I hoped that Ana knew how to administer the turmeric so that it could help her. Do you brew it? Do you eat it directly? It looked somewhat like a spud, so I was sure there were numerous ways to prepare it. 

I wasn't exactly friends with Derek, we were more acquaintances than anything, but he seemed to be important to Peter, and I wanted to bond with him a little as we had a couple of hours ride ahead of us.
