54 Go to the Palace

Emilia's POV

When I woke up in the morning, Klaus was nowhere to be found in the bed. The empty space beside me held no trace of Klaus's warmth, only the marks on my body reminding me of what happened last night.

It wasn't a dream; Klaus spared me.

I sat there in a daze, fingers rubbing the soft sheets. Traces of dried liquid remind me of moist skin, entwined embraces, and my breakdown beneath those golden eyes.

Oh, my moon goddess, I shamefully covered my head, but still couldn't block out the images from last night.

How would Klaus look at me? A useless, inadequate slave? I touched my swollen eyes from crying, sorrowfully thinking. It wasn't my first time crying in front of Klaus, but it was the first time without any pretense, without any purpose, crying like a helpless child seeking help from a relied-upon adult.

Last night's fear shattered me. I could endure Ron's abuse, endure beatings and heavy work, but could not tolerate using my body to please Klaus.
