The throbbing behind her eyes was what pulled Camille from the deep darkness she had been hiding in. The pain reminded her of a hangover, but she couldn’t remember drinking. She remembered spending time with Sid, but their date had been cut short because of an emergency. But that was it. Nothing else came after that.

The thought of opening her eyes made her stomach turn but Camille forced herself to blink away the last remnants of sleep and focus on her surroundings. It proved difficult given the light was only adding to her misery. Everything was blurry and what she could make out wasn’t familiar. There were no windows, but the room resembled a hospital room only harsher.

“You’re awake.” A familiar voice broke the silence and cut through the fog clogging her thoughts.

Kal’s face appeared moments later, amber eyes filled with a mixture of relief and worry. It took a moment for Camille to register what he had said, glazed blue eyes struggling to focus on the male’s features.
