Chapter 38: Into the Wolf's Lair

As Samantha stood in the moonlit clearing, her heart racing with fear and uncertainty, she couldn't shake the feeling of dread that had settled over her. James was gone, vanished into the darkness without a trace, and she was alone in the heart of the forest.

"Samantha," a voice called out from the shadows, causing her to jump in surprise. She turned to see a figure emerging from the trees, their features obscured by the darkness.

"Who's there?" Samantha asked, her voice trembling slightly.

"It's me," the figure said, stepping closer into the light. It was James, his expression grave and troubled. "We need to talk."

Samantha felt a surge of relief wash over her at the sight of him, but it was quickly replaced by a wave of anxiety. Whatever James had to say, she knew it couldn't be good.
