Diane

"I should probably have stayed back," I say worriedly. I know I shouldn't have come with Avery. Her mom doesn't like me and her dad despises me too much.

I can picture them kicking me out as soon as I step in. God, I just shit myself.

"Chill out, it's my parent's house, not hell" Avery rolls her eyes. Does she ever take big things seriously?

"Thank you, mister," she says as we get out of the taxi. We're rich enough to own a car and. Ditch taxis. It's Avery, who is rich enough. What I'm I even thinking?

"Maybe we should go back, I'm sorry I've been bothering you way too much, you ditched your parents doe me, you pay our rent almost all the time, the electricity, and all of those shits, I should be able to fix this, it's too much" I rush my words fast enough so she can't stop me halfway.

"Shut the fuck up, I love you so much, I'd do anything for you" she pulls me into a hug and holds my wrist tightly…maybe harshly dragging me into her family's mansion.

She tries to cover up the space between the both of us. If she is trying to make me feel less panicked, then it's working.

"Wow, baby sis is here," Avery's older brother says as we walk inside the house. How are we going to ignore this guy? He is a prick and too nosey. If he could mind his own damn business just for once. Avery ignores him and walks into the living room with me.

"Damn your friend was never this curvy, her backside is the prettiest I've ever seen"  he continues following us. Great, I should have worn sacks today.

"Shut up Jace, where are your parents?" Avery barks sitting on the couch and makes me sit too. The air is becoming tense or maybe it would have been if this prick wasn't here.

"Jace" a female voice calls from the stairs, it's Avery's mom.

"Avery" she is surprised to see her daughter. She has probably not noticed me yet or it's not time for her crazy comments yet.

"Hi mom," Avery says with the fakes smile I've ever seen her on.

*You brought your bitch"  she replies referring to me. I would have been worried if she didn't say anything. I look around trying not to look at her, then Jace is winking at me. The pervert is fucking flirting with me.

"Can you ever be any nicer?" Avery asks her mom. She is not helping if she talks to her mom this way. How are we supposed to get what….. I want.

Footsteps approach the little gathering and I raise my head again. Avery's dad. fantastic.

"My dearest daughter" Avery's dad is smiling. It's horrible. The weirdest smile I've ever seen.

"You've ten seconds to leave my house or I'll have you thrown out" he yells. His eyes are on me, I don't get it. Was that for me? I look at Avery and she grabs my hand and drags me out.

"If you walk out of that door with her, don't ever call me your father" he yells again at Avery this time. At this point, I expect Avery to kiss me goodbye. But she tightens her grip on my hands. Hell, that's hold. Now her life is half ruined 'cause of me.

She steps out of the door and I open my mouth to say something, but nothing comes out.

"Avery, you know you don't have to do this" Avery's mom says, she is beIind us, her voice is shaken and she sounds like she is almost tearing up.

"What then should I do? Stay with you and enjoy your luxury, while you get to tell me how I've my life, who I get to be friends with, and probably how my kids would be" Avery yells. I decided against turning around. Avery's mom would have tears all over her face and that would make me want to force Avery to stay… but Avery should stay, why am I being so selfish?

"She is just being dramatic, let's go" Avery grabs my hand and storms out of the house with me.

…..

"It's okay," I say to Avery for the umpteenth time. She continued sobbing. Her eyes have become crimson from crying all night. I'm going to be late if she keeps crying because u can't leave her Kime this and it's my first day at work.

"You… have to get… going" she stutters and sniffs

"You have to stop crying, please" I beg and she sniffs again. "Get going, I'll just watch some movies, they'll help" she replies and her voice is normal like she was never crying.

"Are you sure?" I ask and she nods.

I stand up and move to the bathroom. A hot bath to cool my tensed muscles. In a few hours, I'm at the hotel.

It's bigger than Avery said. I walk into the receptionist, trying to put up my best smile.

"Good morning ma, I'm Diane James, I'm supposed to resume here today as a receptionist" I rush my words nervously.

"Ohh you are supposed to have resumed on Monday….never mind," she says, noticing my uneasiness.

"I'll just move upstairs, thanks for coming, you got me promoted," she says smiling. I'm glad she likes me already.

"I'm Regina" she steps out of the desk and stretches her hand to me. Nice.

"I'm Diane" I reply, shaking hands with her. She rushes to the elevator, while I replace her.

I move my eyes to observe the place. Great.

"Hey" I hear a voice. Then I look at the face and I'm terrified. Danny?

What the hell is he doing here? I look around and my eyes meet the security.

"Security, this guy is going to cause a scene" I yell and they rush to the guy and stop on seeing him.

"Boss" they all call in unison. Huh

"Are you crazy, did Regina not tell you about him, I thought ladies gossip a lot" one of them says to me

"Boss, we're sorry, she just resumed and does not know you" another apologizes and they ledve.

Holy shit.
