Chapter Nineteen

After school, Ken and I drove to the hospital to see his mother. She was awake when we got there and looked disappointed that we went to school after everything that had happened. She didn’t even have to ask whose idea it was.

“Where were you taking us the day of the accident?” I asked her the first question in my mind. She was silent, contemplating her next words.

“To a wiccan I knew.” Aunt Courtney confessed.

“What!? Why?” Ken scolded.

“I knew I wasn’t going to be able to get rid of that pendant so I decided it would be best if a witch did it.” Aunt Courtney explained. “That thing is dangerous, Hermione.”

“How is it dangerous?”

Aunt Courtney moved up, to sit more comfortably. “Mabel.” She began and I took a seat and paid close attention. “She was obsessed with it. She would hide it away from everyone and used it to hurt people. She was able to harness the power so it could do her bidding.
