My grip on his immediately loosened as my cheek felt hot. ‘’Sorry’’ I said sheepishly, looking into his eyes.
Devin chuckled while he poured red wine on two port glasses from his hand. Where did that come from? I didn’t even see him take those when we stepped in on the lift. We sat on one of the outdoor couches facing the beautiful view of the city.
He handed me a glass, and I took a big sip, and I coughed as soon as the liquid hit my throat. ‘’Whew...’’ I shake my head ‘’that was... that is strong.’’
He chuckled again and simply took a sip of his drink after nosing it. “Sherry” he raised the bottle resting on the table. I knew he was a wine connoisseur, based on observation of course. Whenever I book his dates, he always asks for a very specific kind of wine f
~Ren~‘’Fine’’ I whispered to myself and caught up with him. Devin isn’t such a bad tour guide. He actually knows a lot about Milan, and I like the sound of his voice when he’s telling a story about the structures we came across.
~Ren~It was a dream; I kept repeating those words like a mantra in my head as I wrapped my arms around Devin’s body. “Don’t leave me,” I whispered on his chest and I can feel that I soaked his shirt in my tears.
~Devin~“For you” I held out the velvet box in my pocket. We are now on the plane back to Manhattan and the uneasiness I was feeling was back. What will happen to us when we get back to Manhattan, to me being her boss?
~Ren~He turned his back on me and I took that as a signal to fix myself and get the hell out of his office. Angie gave me a sympathetic glance when I walked into my office. I didn’t need her sympathy. What I need is to talk to a shrink to fix my damaged brain.
~Ren~We did what she suggested as we snuggled in my new queen-size bed. I had to move my work desk to the living room for this bed to fit inside my room. I remember Cali’s first night here; she fell on the floor because we didn’t fit on my single bed so the next day we bought this bed that would fit the both of us.
~Devin~“Why did you do that?” she whined for the nth time while we drove back to the city. I smell like fermented roses and eucalyptus. A shower would be best in this situation.
~Devin~“You good?” I asked her when she dared to look into my eyes.
~Ren~Cali was bugging me all night for details about my stay with Devin. She won’t believe me that we didn’t do the deed, so here I am in front of the food truck, in need of too much caffeine on a Monday morning.
