Chapter Eighteen.

I adjusted in my seat as I watched her descend the stairs, memories of what happened the day before and how strict I sounded raced through my mind. I was down for dinner and expected her to join me, but Isa told me she said she wasn’t hungry. I knew that wasn’t true; she just didn’t want to come down, didn’t want to be close to me, and I caused that for myself.

I cleared my throat as I watched her take each step slowly. When she looked up in my direction, I immediately withdrew my gaze and fixed it on my phone, so she wouldn't be put off and would leave without eating again. As if I knew what would happen, the next thing I heard was the squeaky sound of the door opening, and by the time I looked up, she was already stepping out of the house.

I jumped up on my feet, conflicting emotions racing through my mind, unsure if I should go after her or just stay still. She was making herself go through this hunger, and it was all because of me. I felt like I should have
