Chapter 56

Quinn POV

I walked into my grandfather’s hospital room as I had many times before. Only this time, was different. It was the first time since I had learned the truth about myself and after I had received my necklace. I absentmindedly rubbed the sapphire as I walked closer.

My grandfather had his own room. He lay propped up with wires and tubes coming off of him. He looked more fragile than the last time I had visited. His once black hair was now peppered with silver. On the wall hung pictures that Ryan and I had drawn with crayon over the years. The room smelled of antiseptic and spice.

I sat on the cushioned chair next to the hospital bed and carefully placed my hand with my grandfather’s. He let out a soft sigh, as if he was reacting to my touch. Before I could grasp what was happening, I was sent into a vision.

I was screaming in the middle of a field as dead bodies lie all around me. The scream of my mother pierced the air before a sickening sound of flesh and bone breaking
