Becca POVThe packhouse was overcrowded this morning as we all ate breakfast together with all of our guests. I loved all of John's friends. They were all members of allied packs, I was so impressed that John had so many good connections. He was such a great leader, and I knew he was going to be a great husband too. Everyone had been warned of our current state of emergency, but they came anyway. Ready to fight if the occasion arose. Most would be going home this afternoon after three days of partying. I had to admit, as much trust I had in our troops, I was glad to have the Faye warriors here with us. Several of them were Fire Faye like myself and had taught me more about what I was capable of than Ivan could. While we partied hard over the past few days, we never missed a training session. Everyone, including the Faye joined in. All appreciated learning new techniques from each other and having fresh opponents to fight. Smiling I walked through the packed living room, listening to o
Rebecca POVEven with my rapid healing abilities, my body ached and screamed for reprieve as the fight continued on and on. My mouth stung with the metallic taste of blood and at this point, I couldn't differentiate if it was my own or not. For one short moment, I was hopeful when I saw the vampires retreating but I knew it was too good to be true. Sure enough, they had only regrouped, making a wall and came marching forward with Claude at the centre. His eyes were bright red as they scanned over the wreckage. Stepping out of the line, he called out into the battlefield.“We only want Rebecca. Surrender her now and there will be no more casualties.”He was met by a lot of growling and snapping. Did he really think the pack would sacrifice their Luna? Think that we were stupid enough to believe they would leave once they got what they wanted? Was he crazy? Unphased, he pulled out a familiar silver medallion and spoke an incantation in a language I didn't know, but somehow recognized.
Becca POVThe battlegrounds were cleaned up over the next couple of days. We didn’t have a lot of casualties, but even one would have been too many. John and I visited each household of the deceased and offered our sympathies and awarded a medal of honor to their closest kin. Only one of them had been mated, and that was the hardest house to visit. Our wedding guests had stayed and helped fill in where needed as our pack recovered. We all gathered together for a quiet lunch. Ivan had recovered just like he said he would. Apparently, his wolf blood helped him heal faster than expected. I kept on forgetting that he was part wolf, even after what had happened.“Excuse me! Killian and I have something to say to you all.” Jenna stood up addressing everyone. Killian joined her, wrapping his massive arm around her waist. The crowd hushed in anticipation.“As this pack knows, Killian and I have been trying for a pup for years…” Her voice was vibrating with excitement. “Jenna?!” Kasey sat up
ZZ...ZZ My phone buzzed from my nightstand forcing me to come to terms with what I desperately wanted to avoid. Realistically, hiding for forever wasn't an option, but that didn't make this any easier. With a shaky breath, I rolled over. My hair soaking up what the damp silk pillowcase hadn't fully absorbed. Another breath. Ignoring him would be a bad idea. As I reached out, the fuzzy blanket I had hung from my four poster bed caressed my skin for one short moment before reaching past it let in a ray of light from my bedroom. Squinting past my barrier, my hand searched for my phone and quickly retreated once it found its target. Clutching the phone to my chest I took one more deep breath. I had to calm down. Even over a text message, I had to be careful. He could never know how upset I was, or what I was so upset about. Now forced to look at the light, my eyes protested as I blinked at my screen. “I’m outside your door, We need to talk.” My stomach knotted. The tears I h
The next morning when I opened my door, I was met by Ivan with a wrapped breakfast sandwich in hand. “Thank you.” I said politely as I resisted digging in right away. “Do you have everything you need?” He asked as he strode briskly through the stone hallway, not waiting for me to catch up. “I think so.” I panted out, already exhausted from hauling around my hospital in a bag and my fifty pound uniform. Once outside in the cool morning air, I felt a little better. With no heavy sun beating down on me I should be ok heat wise. I only hoped we would back before it started raining too heavily. The only thing worse than a uniform was a wet uniform. We all loaded up. Ivan, Alejandro, Julius, and a few others I didn’t know were in the back with me, Scott, and Barnabas in the front. When Scott started driving I finally let the salty mixture of eggs and bacon touch my tongue, savoring every cheesy bite. Julius was eying me up and down as I ate. “Hungry?” I mocked. “Not for a sandw
John POV “How about this one?” I lifted a clear bottle of blue liquid and popped the cap off. Zander coughed, his green eyes watering. “How about never?” I laughed at the look of disgust on his face and was rewarded with a firm punch to my arm. “No wonder you can’t find anyone to marry you.” He muttered. His words pierced their way into my soul and the loneliness I constantly fought to keep at bay took its place at the forefront of my mind. Was that really why it was taking so long to find my mate? Was I that immature that the moon goddess thought I was incapable of taking care of a wife? Zander must have noticed the change in my demeanor because his next words were spoken gently. “Don’t worry John, you’ll find her. Maybe she’ll be at the wedding! Sarah’s pack is pretty big and you haven’t met everyone yet.” “Well here’s hoping” I forced a smile, picking up a pink bottle off the glass display case. We took turns picking up bottles and forcing the other to smell whatever concocti
I stared blankly back at her feeling stupid. “That means it’s coming out backwards.” She explained. “Can you fix it?” I realized how uneducated I sounded as I said it. I wanted to dazzle her with my brilliance, not with my stupidity. She sighed. “Maybe, but it’ll really hurt her and I have nothing for the pain, you’ll have to hold her. She’s moving along much quicker than I thought, and now we’re running out of time and I really need you to seal off the room.” “Can we bring someone else back to help?” “I already asked, no. We’ll just have to hurry.” “Ok I’m ready.” I threw on a shirt as we came back out. “Maggi,” She approached the patent gently. “I’m going to need you to stay calm and trust me ok?” “That's what people say when they have bad news.” She said through gritted teeth. “I saw your face earlier. Something is wrong, tell me!" She nodded sadly. “Your baby is breached Maggi, I’m going to have to rotate it.” “Like hell you are!” She exclaimed making a move to sit up. “I
The ride was uncomfortable, to say the least. Everyone was staring at me like they wanted to kill me. All except Ivan and Rebecca. I kept catching the both of them staring at me. I didn’t mind Rebecca looking at me but Ivan's eyes were unnerving. We drove for what felt like about an hour before we turned into a dark wooded area and into an old warehouse that stood behind a large white mansion. Once inside, Ivan barked orders out to his crew and told me to follow him. We walked down a hallway and into an office. It looked extremely elegant and modern. Clean lines, not very cozy. I could sense that there were many other vampires here. “I thought vampires were more solitary.” I commented, not really expecting him to answer me. “While most vampires choose to roam the earth alone, there are some very old clans that have been around for thousands of years. Bored of hunting for themselves, they set up small communities. Sending out the younger ones to do the leg work. Guaranteeing a safe p
