“You went to the Fiore Manor again?” William, the second prince, asked his brother as soon as the crown prince arrived in his palace.
He had been waiting for him to arrive because he had something to discuss with him but he ended up being curious as to why his brother spent a long time in there when he kept on babbling that he wanted to cut a bit of the Fiore House’s influence. Did he change his mind after a few encounters with the duke and his heir?
“What’s the problem if I spend time on places that I wanted?” Ric said as he dropped his body on the couch.
He went directly to the receiving room when his attendant informed him that William was waiting for him and it had been a few hours since he arrived. He didn’t want him to wait longer because he thought that he had something important to report but it turned out that he was just curious about his personal affairs.
“You don’t easily change your mind, your imperial highness.” William looked at him intently and leaned closer to him. “Won’t you tell me what caught your eye in there?”
“Are you really that curious?” Ric chuckled when he saw the determination in his brother’s eyes. “I saw a very rare flower and I thought that I should visit to see it again.”
“A very rare flower?” William’s brows furrowed. “Was it that rare that only the Fiore house have it?”
“Yes.” Ric smiled as he remembered Sera: her elegant gestures, her soft voice, and her facial expressions that never hid her annoyance towards him. “The flower was too rare that it only blooms once in a few generations.”
“I knew it.” William clicked his tongue. “You’re talking in riddles again since you don’t want me to know.”
William was disappointed as he felt that his brother didn’t trust him but still, he could understand his reason. How could the crown prince fully trust his brother who was almost as capable as him? If he lowered his guard, he could end up losing his position to any of his brothers.
“That’s why you shouldn’t pry further.” Ric couldn’t just inform everyone about Sera because it would ruin a part of the duke’s reputation. If she wanted to protect it, he would help her. He wouldn’t put her in danger so carelessly.
“Was it worth your time?” Since William didn’t know what it really was, he just wished that it wouldn’t be something that could harm the crown prince. Especially, not a maid who seduced him.
Just imagine how hard would it be for him if the crown prince was seduced by a maid. It wouldn’t be a big deal if he would just take her as his concubine, but what if he wanted her to be his empress? He just hoped that there wasn’t a maid beautiful enough to seduce his brother. The flower couldn’t mean a girl, right?
“It was so worth it.” Ric nodded and smiled. “I would visit again, next time.”
“Can I come with you?” William asked.
“No.” It was an immediate answer coming from him.
If William got to know the simple and mysterious Sera, Ric knew that it wouldn’t be impossible for him to be interested in her. With his brother’s looks and kind personality, Sera would definitely treat her differently and he didn’t seem to like the thought of Sera and William getting closer.
“That’s unfair,” William said in a disappointed tone. “Why didn’t you just pick it if you liked it? I don’t think the duke would stop you if you use your position to get what you want.”
“The duke didn’t allow me to pick it.” He smiled when he remembered Sera’s expression when he asked her to run away with him. “But he said that he will send it to me in a few years.”
“In a few years? Then why don’t you just wait for it to be sent to you?”
“I want to be familiar with it.” Ric laughed.
If he would wait for Sera to enter the palace, he would lose his chance to get closer to her while they were younger. He wouldn’t be able to use her if he couldn’t gain her trust so he needed to move as fast as he could.
“You’re so weird.” William shook his head. He couldn’t understand why would his brother waste his time on something that he would get in a few years? He never knew that Alaric could be impatient sometimes.
“Well, it’s okay to be weird sometimes.” Ric chuckled as he looked out the window. He sat properly and showed his brother a serious expression. “Now, why don’t we discuss the thing that you needed to discuss with me?”
“Oh!” William smiled when he remembered the reason for his visit. “I just wanted to inform you about a ball that will be held in the palace in two months. If you don’t want Father to tie you up with some strangers, you better do something and invite someone to be your partner for the ball.”
“A ball? What was the ball for?” Ric asked with furrowed brows. Why would the emperor arrange a ball so suddenly?
“Of course you haven’t heard since you weren’t here all day,” William said sarcastically. “The envoys from the Kingdom of Sri would be coming in two months. That ball is meant to welcome them and to show the harmony between two nations.”
Harmony? Nonsense.
Ric wanted to laugh at his father’s sudden decisions. How could he talk about harmony when he said that he would go to war with the kingdom of Sri if they keep on killing the Dreischans who took in the refugees from their country. He was sure that the envoys from Sri would push for a treaty because they couldn’t afford to enter a war with another country since they were already struggling from internal conflicts regarding their royalties.
He sighed when he realized that he would be occupied as soon as the discussions starts because he would be beside his father, dealing with the envoys. Just thinking about it made his head hurt so he massaged his temples and closed his eyes.
“Are you okay, brother?” William’s tone was worried when he noticed that his brother suddenly looked tired.
“I’m okay. I just realized that I still have loads of things to do so I need to rest now.”
William stood up and bowed his head. “I’ll be taking my leave, your imperial highness.”
Ric let out another sigh. He was planning to meet Sera again tomorrow but it seemed that it would be impossible with the workloads that were waiting for him in his office.
“My lady, you received a letter from the palace,” Mary informed her as soon as a knight delivered the mail to the annex.“From the palace?” Her face turned to a grimace when she realized that there was a certain someone from the palace who would dare send her a letter.“I guess you already knew who it was from,” Mary said with a teasing tone. She smiled sweetly as she handed her the letter.“Just thinking about the possible content of this letter already gives me a lot of headaches.” Sera sighed as he sat on the couch and opened the letter with the imperial seal. The rarest flower in the Duke’s AnnexSera laughed when she saw the name to whom the letter was addressed. Was it because no one knew about her existence yet? She thought that he was acting impulsively when he sent her a letter but it seemed to be not the case.To the most beautiful flower that I’ve
“You intentionally went there, didn’t you?” Duke Fiore asked his wife that night. He heard that the duchess met Sera when she was having tea with Andrei so he had a hunch that she intentionally went there to meet his daughter.“You didn’t like it?” The duchess asked as she sat across the duke. It was already in the middle of the night but they were still both awake because of the works they had to do.“I told you not to go near her,” the duke’s voice was stern but not reprimanding. “Why would you even want to meet your husband’s daughter from another woman?”“Why?” Stephanie, the duchess, scoffed. “Do you think that I’ll harass her just because she was an illegitimate child?”“No…” The duke was out of words. No—he just couldn’t say the words that he wanted to tell her.How could he? He didn’t have the right to e
Sera didn’t expect that the duchess would call for her after just a few days from meeting her. What was she up to? Since they already met, would she start harassing her or something?Sera almost laughed at her own thoughts. How could she think that way after meeting the duchess? She was a witness to how warm and kind she was.“I think the duchess will like you so don’t worry too much, my lady.” Mary put a shawl over her shoulder. “Please rest assured that you are such a loveable young lady. You shouldn’t worry about impressions and work.”“I’m not worried.” Sera chuckled but her lips slightly trembled.Lies.Of course, she was afraid. What if something happened? What if she died right there? Her head was up in space and she didn’t realize that she was already at the door.“You called for me, duchess?” Sera entered the room slowly and gracefully bowed her hea
Since that day, Sera was asked to move to the main house and her room was one of the biggest rooms in the estate. She was told that she would need to attend the coming out banquet wherein most ten-year-old noble children and their parents would attend so that they could socialize with each other. As an aristocrat, they had to know the people in their generations so that they could form connections from different aristocratic families. Because of that, there had been a tradition that there will be three parties held in the imperial palace for the noble children to attend.First was the event called the light tea party. The light tea party was meant for children 5-7 years old. It should be the first time that a child of a noble family would attend a party and they could meet children of the same age. During those parties, groups of friends were already formed mostly based on the status of the family they belong to.The second one would be the coming-out banquet th
It was early in the morning and Sera already heard the knights’ chanting for their morning training when she heard her brother’s voice calling out for her outside her bedroom door. She rubbed her eyes as she looked at the door. She was still half-asleep when she went out of her bed and opened the door for Andrei.“Good morning, Sister!” Andrei messed her hair but Sera didn’t react to it as her attention was caught by someone who stood beside her brother.“Brother Xander?” she asked to confirm if her eyes weren’t messing with her sight.“Andrei requested to bring you to the training grounds. You wouldn’t be allowed to enter if I wasn’t there,” Xander explained with his arms crossed and his expression looked annoyed.“Really?” Sera’s eyes sparkled and her face lit up. Knowing that her family was a knight family, she always dreamed of entering the training grounds, but
Sera excitedly ran to the center where the wooden sword was displayed. Matthew opened the cover and Sera reached out for it. As soon as the sword was in her hand, Sera felt something warm ran through her entire body. It was as if a part of her had been missing and was given back. She could feel her heart beating fast in excitement from the feeling of the sword in her hand. The hilt felt like it was meant for her to hold and the sword’s weight felt a little lighter than she expected. Was it because it was a wooden sword and not a real blade? In her entire life, including before her death, it was the first time she held a sword. People said that the Fiore family was born to hold one so she wanted to try it even once. Now that it was in her hands, she realized that what the people said was true. Though it was her first time, she felt like she could wield the sword easily. She was holding the sword with one hand when she tried to wield it. The sound of the win
After that day, Xander started bringing Sera to the training ground every day and taught her to wield the sword. Sera didn’t expect that she would have the opportunity to learn to hold the sword just like her brothers but she was so happy. She was no doubt a Fiore since she loved the sword more than anything else. If possible, she would love to live in the training ground and hold the sword every day but her body wouldn’t be able to keep up with it.“Sera?”She was all set when she heard Andrei’s voice outside her room. She opened the door for him and smiled sweetly when he offered his arms for her to hold onto.“Father called for you in his office,” Andrei informed her while they were walking down the stairs. “You should go there first. I’ll wait for you by the door and I’ll send someone to inform Xander that you’ll be late.”“Thank you, brother!” Sera went to the duke&rs
“Sera?” His father carried her and caressed her back. “Why are you suddenly crying? Did Papa say something wrong?”Sera shook her head. Though she was in a body of a child, she was supposed to be a mature eighteen-year-old lady. However, at that moment, she felt as if it was okay to be a child again. She wanted to do the things that she couldn’t do in her past life. She wanted to create memories that she never had before. If it was with her current family, she believed that it could be possible.“I’m sorry for acting like this, Papa,” Sera said in between sobs. “I just thought that I would never belong to any family since my mother died.”Her tears poured like rain as she buried her face on her father’s neck. She could feel his father’s hand gently caressing her back as he started to walk.Alejandro’s heart broke when he heard Sera’s words. Sera lived without a father for
