005- wicked schemes

Luna's choosing a game!.

It was more of a death trap than a game. That was what my father once said when I was still little—who knew I would participate in one myself one day?

All through the night, I kept thinking about what it would be like. My mother-in-law doesn't like me, and she would even do anything within her power to make sure I was not chosen.

I thought mate bonding was supposed to be all that I had to do.

I looked at my surroundings and sighed. I slept in Ethan's room but woke up in mine. Does he really not want me again, or is he just avoiding trouble?

I threw the sheet in a corner and headed out to look for him.

The moment I opened the door, I saw him standing right at the door and adjusting his wrist watch.

I could smell that he had just showered.

"Are you feeling unwell?" Ethan asked, seeing my pale skin and my drowsy eyes. He placed his hands on my forehead, avoiding the part that was a bit swollen.

I involuntarily hugged him tightly. I didn't even realize that tears were leaving my eyes. His body was huge and warm enough for me.

"You had a nightmare?"

"Do you not want me anymore?. I dreamt that you were married to someone else."

Ethan sighed. "You know that would never happen. If you divorce me, I'd be lonely for the rest of my life."

"I don't want a divorce either. What if I wasn't chosen as your luna?"

"I'm scared that it would grant your wish of dumping me." Ethan's words were cold.

I pressed my face into his shirt. "I can't think about how my life will be ruined without you, Ethan, so please give me a chance to right my wrongs."

I was crying really hard this time. The thought of all I went through without him kept flashing back to me.

"Is your head still hurting?"

I looked up with tearful eyes and nodded. "Just slightly."

"Maybe we'd go for a CT scan later. Madam Lucy has made breakfast, so just go and watch up and join me in the dining room."

I calmed my emotions, only to realize that I hadn't even watched my face yet. I rushed inside, covering my face with my palms.

Ethan giggled with laughter at my awkwardness. "This isn't our first day of marriage, Charlie."

For the first time, he shortened my name. Today will count as my best morning ever.

I quickly freshened up and rushed downstairs.

At the table were chicken and waffles, which I always loved.

I was still super excited about my breakfast when Ethan placed a glass of warm milk in front of me.

I took a bite of the waffle and some milk and looked up at Ethan. "Nothing tastes better than this."

"I like that you eat so well," he smiled, removing the junk food beside my mouth with his finger.

Now I don't know if that was a compliment or sarcasm.

I noticed Madam Lucy smiling and tugging the cleaner to look at us.

Ethan's phone suddenly buzzed. He stared at it and ignored whoever it was. However, it kept buzzing so much that I had to take a look myself.

Prince Ethan, please don't be mad at my sister. I tried to talk her out of it, but she would rather die than appreciate the love you shower her with. I will try to persuade her to accept you more. [I truly apologize on her behalf for causing you trouble the other night.]

The phone number was familiar, although it wasn't saved on Ethan's phone. I already knew who it was judging by the message she sent.

"Does my sister send you messages like this often?"

"I wouldn't know. There are lots of spam messages that I don't open."

My brows frowned. I scrolled more to read the previous messages she had sent, and in all of them, it was Isabella making me look bad while she painted herself as the good little sister looking out for her elder sister's happiness.

"It seems like a lot of people have your number."

"I don't understand. You mean your sister? You gave her my number yourself, don't you remember now?"

I was silent and bit my lips in regret. If anyone was to be blamed, I dug my death grave by myself.

"It's just that she seems so concerned about our marriage." I look at him, letting a bit of my jealousy show.

"She sends them, but that doesn't mean I will read them."

I eyed the man in front of me. He seems to have figured it out a while ago. No wonder he would ask me not to allow third parties to sleep over at his house.

He knew all this while playing the schemes that Isabella had been playing.

"Ma'am, your sister said she's coming over today," Madame Lucy said as if she knew who we were talking about.

"Isabella? Get the guest's room ready and pack her stuff up too. She can't visit my home every time.

In the past, she had gathered enough courage to let me believe she meant well for me.

Unlike me, Isabella had a normal Wolf; she would always brag with her mother about how great her mate would be, but when she found out he was just a member of the pack without any official position, she immediately rejected him.

"What are you so worried about, Charlotte? You will soon get a wrinkle if you keep frowning like that."

The floor bell rang, and Isabella showed up like I expected. She immediately smoked and moved some straps on her head when she saw Ethan.

"Prince Ethan, I hope my sister isn't giving you so much trouble. She must have locked herself in a room again. I have warned Charlie to stop all of those weird attitudes that cause you a lot of trouble.

"Weird attitudes like what Isabella. Aside from my bad temper, what other weird attitude do I have? You seem to be so familiar with it."

"Sis! I am surprised to see you out of your room so early.

She was indeed surprised.

"You should learn to visit less, Isabella; this house is not our family house."

"Are you trying to chase me away from your house because I'm not your mate now?"

Isabella acted so pitiful. She gave me that look that I would have fallen for if I didn't die because of her. .

Ethan looked at his wristwatch and patted my back. "You guys should talk. I will be right back. Less I forget, five candidates have been chosen for Luna's game. However, you should be worried, even a bit. I will protect what's mine. At any cost!"

Ethan's words came out so smoothly, and I felt reassured by his promise. He kissed my lips gently before leaving for work.

Isabella's eyes were red, burning in anger as she faked her beautiful smile. Our action almost caused her to explode. "Brother in law! I have just arrived, and you are leaving?."

"Your brother-in-law has a lot of things to do; you cannot expect him to push things aside while he stays to play with you."

"That's not what I mean..." Isabella was short on words. She gritted her teeth in anger.

"Are you guys still getting a divorce? You shouldn't have to act anymore; since Luna's game is starting soon, maybe you could use an easier way. Just make sure you intentionally fail the tests and"

"Isabella!" I quickly cut her out. "Why do you care so much about my divorce?. Ethan is the most prestigious and eligible man in the pack. His looks, charisma, and skills... You know every lady in the pack wants him as a mate. Are you also eyeing my husband, little sister?"

Isabella's expression changed in an instant. "What are you talking about? From the start, you were the one who was bent on rejecting Ethan as your mate. If not that father had to force you into marriage, you would have been happier. I know you have suffered so much; that's why I couldn't bear you spending the rest of your life with the man you don't want to marry."

If not for rebirth, I would have fallen for those words.

"I have something—good news—that I came to tell you." Isabella's lips curled up with smiles.

"I am listening."

"You won't believe that I am among the candidates selected for Luna's game."

"..."

"What?!"
