Chloe took the record reverently, her fingers tracing the worn edges. "I wish I could remember him," she whispered, a pang of longing echoing in her chest.

Grandpa Charles placed a comforting hand on hers. "Memories come back in their own time, child. But even if some details are lost, the love remains."

"Uh, Grandpa," she stuttered, pressing her fingers against her temple.

"Feel free, child. You can ask me anything," he urged.

"Is it true that I barely knew my father and he'd left when I was young," she blurted out.

She believed that he would have known her father better than anyone else.

He let out a soft sigh. "My dear, parents are humans too, and so it means that they also have flaws."

Paul wasn't exactly a great father; he was absent for the most part of Cara's life.

He and Elizabeth had sent Cara abroad when she was just twelve, and she'd grown up there alone.
