Fair enough. It was unfair of me to expect her to be part of something she didn’t even know existed. This is exactly why I didn’t want us to move into this mansion. It held too many secrets. My apartment was not any better. I may have kept myself away from my family’s illicit businesses but I wasn’t a saint myself.

I had wanted to own a home with her, a place that would be completely rid of anything I didn’t want her to know. I could pretend to be a legitimate businessman for six months. But now that we were here, everything had changed.
