Chapter 5:

RYAN

I yawned, stretching tiredly as I glared around the room. Checking the time, I screamed. Damn! I was already late for class.

Biology is the first class of the day and I wouldn't want to miss it for any reason. Since it had the highest Grade Point, I was going to take the course very seriously.

I picked my phone from where I had left it. I was going to message Sarah, but I felt it might be too early to say hello.

However, I went ahead. Whenever she sees my message, she'd probably text back.

Me: How was your night?

Sarah: Was fine what about yours?

I was surprised at how fast she had replied to my text, like she's been waiting for me to message her. Or she knew I'd be sending her a text.

Me: Great. Any good news today?

Sarah: Yeah. I'm on my way for my interview. We'll talk later in the day. Have a nice day.

Me: Yeah. Have a nice day.

I was over excited for her sake. Finally she's got her dream job and I can't wait to hear how fair her interview went.

I rushed, dressing up for school. Thankfully I didn't catch up with the traffic. Just as I reached the school compound, Tom was just arriving.

"You're late." He said, tapping my shoulder.

"We both are."

Peter who had come earlier than we did rushed towards us as soon as we walked into the school building. He was looking like a chased rat as he kept breathing heavily.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"We've got a new teacher." I arched my brows, not like I cared. The last time a new teacher walked into the school, I remember how they really praised her so much.

Well, it turns out that she wasn't even close to beauty.

"There's always a new teacher all the time. Come on, we're late for class." That was how we died off the topic, at least that's what I thought.

The entire student had been talking about this new teacher, and I couldn't help but wonder what could be so special about her that got both boys and girls talking.

"We have a new biology teacher!" A student announced as she rushed into the classroom.

A new biology teacher?

This could have been Sarah. If only I knew my school was in need of a biology teacher, I would have told her about it and we could always get in touch with each other.

"She's with the headmaster." Another said after checking the door.

I wouldn't say I wasn't eager to see who this pretty lady was, of course, I was. And I wanted to know if she was more perfect than Sarah.

Just as the headmaster walked in, I looked over him to see what the lady looked like. But to my greatest shock… the so-called new biology teacher was what?

SARAH?

I found every means to hide my face from her. Yeah, I told her I was a college student, but here I am sitting my ass on a final year seat of highschool.

How am I going to explain that?

"Good morning everyone." The headmaster greeted,

"Good morning Mr Evans." They chorused.

"Well, I believe we all heard the incident about Mrs Theresa, and for the meantime she won't be available to handle biology classes. So, here is Miss Morgan and from today, she will be your new biology teacher." He announced.

"Hello, everyone." She waved a soft smile as she glared at everyone.

"Hello, Miss Morgan."

"Thank you for accepting me. Uhm… I learned we have biology right now, so the rules are simple. Pay attention, ask questions when necessary and we're good to go. But before we start our class, is there anyone who wishes to ask me a question?"

All hands were raised.

She laughed. "Well, I'll be answering just one question in the meantime." She points at a girl in the front row.

"Why are you so cute?" She asked.

Her mouth opened in bewilderment as she wasn't expecting the question. No one was either.

She turned to look at Mr Evans a who shrugged with a smile.

She returned her gaze to the girl who was desperate to hear her reply. "Well, I think that's a question for the creator."

"Thanks, Miss Morgan."

"I'll leave you to continue."

She nodded. He left.

"So," she started, meaning business. "Where did your previous teacher stop?" She asked. She was paying more attention to the front row which made her not have noticed me.

"Since we aren't familiar with each other, I'd love it when my student introduces themselves before answering a question." She smiled.

"So, where did you stop with Mrs. Theresa?" She repeated.

I raised my hand high, drawing her attention to myself. "Yes, pl–"

She looked shocked to see me, and the sudden stop she made in her words, I could tell she wasn't expecting to see me. But she composed herself to avoid suspicion.

"Yes please, go ahead and tell us your name."

"My name is Ryan."

"Okay. So Ryan, do you have an idea of where Mrs Theresa stopped in your last class?"

"Climate change."

"Thank you, Ryan. You can have your seat now." I could see from the smile on her face that she looked shocked to see me.

She made an effort not to look my direction when she turns to ask questions or explain a context. Time wasn't with us, the bell rang and everyone stood up to leave.

She packed her stuff, walking out of the class without acknowledging me.

I let her walk a few meters ahead before I followed behind so no one would suspect. Reaching her office, I offered a knock on the door.

"Come in."

I walked in, and again…the look on her face wasn't encouraging.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, expressing how surprised I really am.

"I was going to ask you the same question."
