Memories Coming Back

It was the fifth day after her surgery, Eulalia didn’t need any more care. She could eat and get up on her own.

“I want to eat a Chinese cousin called wontons from the food street.”

There was a food street near her school, and Eulalia loved the wonton shop there. It wasn’t because the wontons were amazing, but because the lady who owned the shop looked a lot like her mother and had a gentle personality.

The wontons were filled generously. The owner, noticing Eulalia as a regular, would secretly give her a couple of extra wontons and sometimes a poached egg, telling her to eat more and not to get too thin.

“You remember now?” Percival was startled, his pupils shrinking slightly. His momentary panic made his mind race.

Eulalia looked out the window with a careless smile. “I wish I could remember. Can you tell me?”
