The Truth Must Be Told

Nathan’s POV

I was going to get Harriet out of here if it was the last thing I did. How was I to know that she was actually telling the truth? I had always loved this woman. When her parents sold her off to Charles, it was the end of the world. That is why I had been so cold towards her. She could never know my feelings while she was with him. She had passed out in the back seat, her head was in my lap, just the way I had always pictured she would be. But not for these reasons.

The driver made it to the jet in no time. I had a villa on an island just outside of Australia that no one knew about, even Charles. So she would be safe there for the time being. She still hadn’t opened her eyes. The bruises on her neck were purple. I knew he hated her, but did he really have to try to kill her? Yesterday I only stormed out because I didn’t want to know that he touched her body. He just used her body at his pleasure, even when she told him no, he would still take her, if they weren’t married then it would be rape, but no one could touch the all mighty powerful Charles Smith but my plan was working and soon his empire would fall.

“Sir, is Miss Harriet ok?” Adam asked me.

“Mr Smith, tired to kill her, so I am taking her away where she will be safe. Do you think you can stay with her there for a while, Adam? I promise I will fly your wife over when the time is right, when I know that all of you will be safe.” Of course, I knew the genuine relationship between Adam, his wife, and Harriet, so that was why I was entrusting her to them, because I knew they would truly look after her.

“Of course Sir. Maybe we should Linda home. Mr Smith will be watching her, unless you move her now.” He suggested to me, which was a good idea. Adam had been my driver for my entire life, but he had also been my father’s right-hand man, so he knew what this business was about. Pulling out the burner phone, I dialled Elliot’s number. He picked up on the second ring.

“Boss.”

“Elliot, I need you to get to Adam’s wife. No questions. You must do whatever you can to keep her safe. Get her to the airstrip and from there, the pilot will know where to take her.” I said to him.

“No worries, boss. Did Charles finally do it?”

“No, he didn’t, but it was close. I knocked him out in the hospital so any minute there will be retaliation, so watch your back. If you think you are being followed, get to the safe house.” I warned him. I hung the phone up.

“Thank you Nathan. That is more than you needed to do.” Adam said, thanking me.

“Adam, you were my father’s closest friend, and you have helped me with everything.” Harriet was stirring, so I lifted her up in my arms, carrying her onto the jet. After we had settled, another car pulled up. It was Elliot’s car, but something seemed off, because I didn’t tell him to get here this fast. The door opened, Elliot’s body fall out. They had shot him in the head. Linda got out of the car. It was Charles, he was staring directly at me. Adam was watching me.

“Adam, what do you want to do?” I asked him.

“Boss, let me off. You go with Harriet. She will need to be told the truth soon and you need to be the one that tells her. Tell her we always loved her, we always will. It was too dangerous to keep her with us and when the time is right, when she wants answers, take her to the safe box Nathan. The national bank, the box number, is her birthday, and the password is Linda’s birthday. Keep her safe, my boy. I will see you all in another lifetime.” And with that, he was off the plane.

“You need to go now.” I screamed at the pilot. Normally I would fly the jet myself, but I couldn’t move. The sound of two rounds being fired brought me to look out the window. Charles shot both Adam and Linda. There was nothing I could do now. I needed to get Harriet to safety. The jet was in the air before Charles could do anything. Was she really worth it? My most trusted friend was dead. My heart was heavy.

Charles POV

Well, shit, he had hit me hard in the head and now they were both gone. I wasn’t sure how much of a head start he had with her, but I would find them and kill them both. My lawyer had finally found a way to get around the clause of her dying.

“Boss, what happened? Are you ok?” Came Dwayne’s voice from behind me.

“Yeah, fucking Nathan has her. You know what to do. I will meet you at his airstrip.” Making a few phone calls on the way out of the hospital, the plan was in place. Did Nathan really think that he could take her away? I know he had loved her from the beginning, trying to hide her from the proper business we were involved in. But what he didn’t except was that Zoe and I would fall in love, so we double crossed that son of a bitch.

The car pulled up, getting in the back seat. The driver took off, already knowing what to do. I always had a soft spot for Harriet in my heart, but she wasn’t cut out for the drug business. That was why our families merged. We now controlled over half of the coke business this side of the US. I remember the day Zoe came to my office, trying to seduce me. I knew what she wanted from the start, so I gave it to her again and again. Then things got serious. She became the mistress, well, in the eyes of everyone else. But I loved the girl with my heart and now she was pregnant. Harriet was just in the way, so she needed to die. Zoe said to make her happy, Harriet had to die. She didn’t want her to have anything.

When I found out she had been pregnant, I saw rage. How dare she cheat on me? Who the fuck would want her, anyway? I had always abused her body. I took her virginity like it was nothing. I forced her into it. I raped her repeatedly. This happened night after night until she stopped fighting me. She would just lay there and whimper. I would humiliate her in every way I could, and this was the ultimate form. No one else saw it as rape because she was my wife, so that was how I was allowed to get away with it, but also the police were eating out of my pockets. I was untouchable.

“Boss, we are two minutes out.” The driver said.

“Good. Did you bring the handgun?”

“Under the seat, boss.” He replied. The car stopped. Dwayne was there already. He had the gun pointed at Elliot’s head. I gave him the nod. No one would hear the shot because of the silencer. Dwayne got into the front with Elliot’s body and drove to the jet. Adam’s wife was watching me. She was not whimpering. She had a distant look on her face, but her eyes looked like they welcomed death. She had lived a long life for being in this business.

“Please, just make it quick Charles.” Linda said to me.

“As you wish.” I said to her, even though I had to kill her, I had a lot of respect for this lady. She was brutal.

“I hope you think that yours and Adam’s life is worth hers.”

“You will never know the value of her life to us. We will both happily lay our lives down for her.”

“Nathan still doesn’t know that you are both her actual parents?” She shook her head this time, not saying a word. The car stopped, Dwayne pushed Elliot’s body out of the car. The look on Nathan’s face was hard to see, but he knew what was happening. I forced Linda out. She walked forward. Adam would be here in seconds. Ahh, there he was right on time, racing towards Linda. I fired one shot at Linda’s head, then aimed at Adam. He fell to the ground where he was. We were too late now, the jet was gone. But I would hunt him and Harriet down. I would kill everyone they loved until they showed themselves.
