Chapter two

Everyone started running and screaming, hiding in their cars and turning on their headlights. Lun watched in terror as the guards ripped off their clothes and began to grow to over six feet tall. Their bodies were covered with long dark hair all over, their faces deformed into a new elongated wolf-like shape, their eyes grew smaller and their mouths tripled in size.

They began to howl and growl before getting down on all fours and attacking cars, lashing out with their large claws and leaving marks wherever they placed them. Their eyes were black as night, on their hands were huge sharp nails that lifted the doors and hoods of vehicles, pulling out the drivers and tearing them apart and then engulfing them.

Lun felt bile rise in his throat.

She turned and saw that the security guard who had been holding both women by the arm was smiling. In his eyes there was a yellow gleam and, on his lips, a wolfish grin.

At that moment her body was run through with huge spasms, her clothes tattered to shreds on the floor, leaving behind huge tears. The bones in her face crunched loudly at the change, her muscles enlarged and the unpleasant sound of bodies being dismembered pierced Lux's brain, stunning her.

"Run!" shouted the girl who minutes before had been angry and grabbed his hand.

Lun went after her as he heard the sounds of that massacre. He could hear the screams of the drivers, crying and begging for mercy. She could hear the cars being torn apart like flimsy sheets of paper, the sound of iron hitting the ground. Also... how the bodies were torn apart, how the blood fell to the ground.

Tears streamed down her pale cheeks.

She and the girl with the southern accent got into a car that was not locked. While the girl searched for something to defend herself with, Lun watched in horror at everything around her. Death, blood and hunger were the main factors of that slaughter. Lun felt eyes staring at her from the rearview mirror.

She approached... and screamed.

Yellow eyes with small black pupils stared back at her. She could have even sworn the monster smiled at her and then ran its tongue over its teeth. It jumped up, disappeared from the human's sight, and then passed...

The roof of the car caved in. The two women screamed in amazement as they watched the top of the vehicle disappear. One of their hands went around Lun's waist, lifted her up and began to howl. The others, like him, did the same before continuing to devour the corpses on the ground. Lun released his grip and fell, hitting his head and hip against the hood of the car.

Lun gasped and caught his breath quickly as he landed on the ground. Out of the corner of his eye, she saw the werewolf with a pen stuck in his neck. The girl he had been with grabbed his hand, and they headed for another car, ducking down so as not to attract attention. But this time they hid under it. From that position, they saw everything that was happening to the other drivers. Lun's heart was beating faster every second she stayed hidden, her brain couldn't process anything that was happening, and her hip hurt terribly. She brought a hand to the sore area and gasped at the sight of blood.

"Did you hurt yourself?" the girl whispered to him.

"A little. What are those things?" she stammered, feeling cold and terror quickly invade her body.

The girl cupped his face with her hands and cupped his cheeks gently.

His golden-green eyes stared at her.

"Don't go into shock," she whispered and smacked harder on his cheeks. "Stare at me."

Lux obeyed her and felt the air returning to her lungs. She closed her eyes tightly as two tears slid down her face. She covered her ears so as not to hear the tearing of flesh and the last moans of the survivors. The two girls stopped breathing when they saw a werewolf walk by, on two legs and with its hands hanging at its sides. With blood, falling in drops. One of them splashed Lun and panicked but kept her cool.

At that moment, a door was heard to burst open and fall against the floor. The wolves stopped eating and went into a defensive posture, snarling. What was going on, had the police arrived? And if so, did they stand a chance against the wolves?

Did they stand a chance against those monsters?

Lun peeked around the side of the car and saw tall, black-clad, burly men running at inhuman speed to get on top of the wolves. She shook her head as she thought she saw long incisors and extremely dilated pupils in their mouths.

One of them, when he landed on top of the wolf, flipped him over and grabbed his two large, hairy arms while stepping on his face to keep him from turning around. He pulled hard backward, the snap of two bones being heard as he slipped out of position. The wolves began to fight hard, howling and walking on all fours to catch them as they jumped.

Lun's teeth began to chatter, her heart still pounding, her lungs forcing her to take in more air with each passing second to maintain her state of survival.

She was about to faint.

Lux screamed as a large hand grabbed her ankle, digging claws through her pants and dragging her out of the car. As she emerged from the shelter, the wolf stomped hard on her thigh, dug its claws in even deeper, and as she prepared to yank her leg off... one of the men quickly appeared at her side to grab the wolf by the collar and force it to let go of her leg.

He thrust forward, and his two hands opened his jaw forcefully as the wolf tried to close them. In the end, he ended up dead on the ground with his jaw unhinged and his gaze lost. The man who had saved her wore the torn arm covered in dark blood and fur. Lun lay on the ground, gasping and muttering as she went into shock. The girl with the southern accent grabbed her hand and tried to pull her back under the car, but Lun was unresponsive. She was dead weight.

"Finish them all!" shouted the man who had killed the wolf.

He stared at them. First at the brunette out of the corner of his eye, then at the blonde girl who was rocking back and forth. Her hair completely covered her face, her right leg was soaked with blood and her arms full of scratches. When her face was clear, she realized she had a deep gash on her forehead that would need some stitches.

Lifting her up in his arms, he made her hide under the car with the dark-haired girl, who immediately grabbed her and pressed her to the ground.

"Don't come out of here."

While the other men tried to kill the monsters, the two of them remained silent, crying and with their hearts in their fists for having seen all that massacre. Had it really happened? Were there creatures other than the human race, or had it all been a dream?

After half an hour, everything was silent. Lun was not aware of what was happening, nor did she feel any pain in her leg. She was frozen from the cold and felt like vomiting even though her stomach was empty. In her eyes, she only saw focused what had happened over and over again, unable to get those images out of her mind. She saw how the guards changed shape, how his legs had lengthened and his arms as well. Seeing how his face had lengthened, and his teeth had grown, had reminded him of the monster he had feared throughout his childhood: werewolves.
