21: The Ride Back Home

As a stroke of lighting lights up the pavement followed by cackling thunder, I’m reminded of Ken’s warning about half an hour ago.

“Go home, honey, it’s going to rain soon,” he’d told me when his uber arrived.

Did I listen? No.

And now I’m stuck in the rain right outside CTA’s gate and struggling to get a cab. It seems that all the cabs are full and I’m cursing myself for staying back late to arrange the new makeup products that arrived for Maeve.

I’m still flailing my arms like a scorned woman to stop a cab when Alexander’s car drives out of the company’s humongous gates.

Even though our eyes lock through the half lowered window of his sports’ car, he doesn't act like he knows me or cares in the slightest that I’m being drenched by the unforgiving rain. I roll my eyes when he drives by and continue trying to wave down a car.
