Prologue

I'm just about to take another sip of my bourbon when a woman walks in escorted by a man dressed in a sophisticated black Armani suit.

The man wears a cold hard expression leaving no room for emotion as he accompanies the woman.

The woman is dressed in a dark grey mini dress with a wrapped upfront accentuating her hourglass figure.

She has a curvilinear waste and saffron tint to her complexion as the dress creates room for a glimpse of her glossy skin.

Her obsidian-black hair flows in waves over her shoulders her eyes having a light like sapphires, bright and hard.

I recognize her as the youngest member of the Gemstone family; a family quite known for its wealth and prestige.

Armando Gemstone and Henrietta Gemstone, the co-founders of one of the biggest corporate businesses in the state, happen to be the parents of the woman who powerfully strides across the floor, Edwina Gemstone.

It was not an everyday affair for a member from such a prestigious family to walk into such a club famous for holding the most ruthless criminals within the state.

The woman walks towards the V.I.P lounge, the man following closely behind her.

She walks into the room ignoring the wolf whistles and wealthy men being entertained by strippers.

She walks up to an empty table at the farthest end taking her seat as the man whispers something in her ear and moves to stand away at a comfortable distance.

I take a sip from my glass, the liquid burning my throat observing in silence as Alessandro walks up to her taking a seat directly opposite her.

They engage in what seems to be a deep serious conversation and as I observe keenly, never once does the woman flinch from Alessandro's harsh expression which was known to scare most people shitless.

I continue to watch their conversation in deep interest when I feel a tap on my shoulder and I'm forced to drag my eyes away as I stand up and walk away.
