Chapter Twenty Three

I did not see Alexander for two days. Work was tight with the elections coming up so soon, everyone was trying to clean up their ends. So many interviews to be scheduled and parties to attend.

I didn't see Ruby too. Honestly would have felt so alone if Mr Warner didn't hover around me like some sort of bodyguard and whispered the sort of things I wasn't interested in listening to.

If someone had told me dinner at the family house was going to be my escape and I would have gone willingly, I would have laughed and told the person to stop whatever cheap drugs they were on.

But there I was, on a Saturday night, sitting across my mother with Amanda at the side. Charles sat at the head of the table. I always felt like an imposter when we were gathered around like this, of course Alexander was around and would always try to make me feel included by doing silly things.
