Chapter Forty Six

My heart raced as I continued to plead with Demetrius, desperately hoping that he would see a reason to release me. Fear coursed through my veins as I realized the gravity of the situation. The queen would surely notice my absence, and she would stop at nothing to find me. But Demetrius seemed unfazed by my threats, his cruel laughter echoing through the room.

"Oh, my dear Naomi, how foolish you are," he sneered, his voice dripping with contempt. "Do you really think I plan to keep you here for long? No, my goal is much grander than that. I plan to make myself the king before Rueben even has a chance."

Shock and disbelief flooded my senses. The weight of Demetrius's words settled heavily on my shoulders, and I felt a surge of determination to stop him, to protect my kingdom and the ones I loved.

"Demetrius, please," I pleaded, my voice trembling. "Think about what you're doing. The consequences of your actions will be devastating. Is power truly worth sacrificing everything?"
